Job Summary

The Plant Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment used in a coal preparation plant. This role supports safe and continuous plant operations by ensuring all electrical components function reliably and in compliance with MSHA, company, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including motors, MCCs, PLCs, VFDs, lighting, and control circuitry
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues in processing equipment such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, centrifuges, and belt drives
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure optimal equipment performance
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to support plant production goals
  • Ensure all work complies with MSHA, OSHA, NEC, and company safety standards
  • Inspect electrical equipment for hazards, defects, or code violations
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and training programs
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities
  • Respond to emergency troubleshooting needs during breakdowns or outages

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3โ€“5 years of industrial electrical experience, preferably in mining, coal preparation, or heavy industry
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • 480V and medium-voltage systems
    • Motor controls and power distribution
    • PLC troubleshooting. Programming is preferred

  • Ability to read electrical blueprints and schematics
  • Valid driverโ€™s license
  • Ability to pass MSHA-required training and physical exams

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSHA Part 48 certification

  • KY Electrician license or equivalent

  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs)

  • Knowledge of conveyors and process plant automation

  • Welding or mechanical aptitude is a plus

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a coal processing environment with exposure to dust, noise, heat, and outdoor conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
