About us!

Plant Manager

 

Department:  Operations

Status: Exempt

Employee Classification:  Regular Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Yes

 

Job Summary:  

The Plant Manager oversees all daily operations of plant production, maintenance, and planning to support our customers and business.  Keeps production at maximum capacity while working within financial controls.  Ensures all required quality and regulatory standards are met.  Develops processes for maximizing safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.  Hire, train, inspire employees to create unmatched engagement and workplace culture.  

Essential Functions:

Safety

  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained in safety and that there is a continuous and daily effort to ensure compliance with all safety standards
  • Always ensure that there is a clean and organized manufacturing work environment
  • Audit/Validate all safety procedures are followed


Quality and Food Safety

  • In coordination with Quality Assurance, ensure implementation and maintenance of a quality and food safety system for the plant
  • Establish and implement a system of training for all production employees regarding acceptable quality levels
  • Review customer complaints and corrective actions routinely; ensure quality and food safety systems are working as intended


Production

  • Achieve desired production goals without compromising safety or quality
  • Minimize downtime of all equipment through tracking of metrics, establishing root cause, and coordinating with solutions.
  • Minimize setup time and changeovers through proper training and best practice approaches
  • Maximize throughput and machine efficiency by ensuring proper training and setup, coordinating with Maintenance to ensure equipment is always in running order, and continuously evaluating ways of surpassing standards


Human Resources

  • Hire, direct and coach direct reports and other key staff
  • Establish an environment which motivates and engages talent in the plant to achieve desired results
  • Create an environment which supports the ongoing training and development of all staff within the plant organization
  • Foster a positive work environment through open and ongoing communications and behavior consistent with Company Values

Finance and Planning
Continuously evaluate 'build plan' and ensure the availability of proper resources to accomplish goals

  • Minimize the cost of goods sold
  • Review monthly performance; initiate projects and actions to ensure achievement of annual plan and drive continuous improvement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma / GED; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 10+ years progressive experience in food production, maintenance, and warehouse operations.
  • Experience in delivering sustainable continuous process improvement programs through engaging and empowering teams.
  • Understanding of OSHA and manufacturing safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and appropriate KPI's for measurement of manufacturing systems.
  • Working knowledge of ISO Management Systems for Safety, Quality and Environmental.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proven leadership capability in developing managers and other key employees within an operation.
  • Strong business acumen with experience managing an operational P&L and operating budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to build capable, high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage and respond to issues when needed for a 24/7 operation.
