What does a planner manager do?

A Planner Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and coordination of projects, resources, or supply chains within an organization. They create strategies, manage schedules, and ensure that all planning processes align with company objectives and deadlines. Planner Managers often supervise a team of planners, analyze data to improve efficiency, and work closely with other departments to resolve issues. Their goal is to optimize operations, minimize delays, and support successful project or production outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a planner manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Planner Manager, you need strong analytical abilities, project management expertise, and typically a degree in urban planning, business, or a related field. Familiarity with planning software (such as MS Project or Primavera), GIS systems, and sometimes certification like AICP is important. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams and manage stakeholder expectations effectively. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, strategic resource allocation, and alignment with organizational or municipal objectives.

What are some common challenges a planner manager faces when coordinating between multiple departments?

Planner Managers often encounter the challenge of aligning priorities and timelines across various departments, such as operations, procurement, and logistics. Balancing the needs and expectations of different stakeholders while ensuring project deadlines are met requires strong communication and negotiation skills. Additionally, adapting to unexpected disruptions—like supply chain delays or shifting business objectives—is a core part of the role. Successful Planner Managers proactively foster collaboration and maintain flexibility to address these challenges effectively.

Our vitamins, supplements, and better-for-you foods are scientifically formulated to help create healthier and happier lives for people of all kinds.

Our award-winning products are sold in thousands of retail and eCommerce stores nationwide, including Walmart, Amazon, Walgreens, Target, CVS, The Vitamin Shoppe, Sam's Club and iHerb. We need the smartest, highest energy people with real integrity who are looking to join an ambitious, hard-working team.

Force Factor is based in Boston's innovative Seaport District. Our team is filled with passionate, dedicated, and inspiring people operating with an ownership mindset (which is easy because we are entirely privately held and plan to stay that way). Our private ownership structure is designed for the long term to enable huge opportunities for key team members to learn a ton, work with other A players and generate significant wealth, and we hope you'll choose to help us build an enduring and successful business for decades to come. There are two main reasons we're included on Bain's Insurgent Brands list of high-achieving CPG brands outperforming market growth: our people and our culture.

  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Demand Planning to align trade plans with the broader demand forecast.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, gaps, and inconsistencies in trade plans and escalate or follow up with the appropriate business owners.
  • Provide reporting and analysis to help leadership understand what is working, what is not, and where adjustments may be needed.
  • Serve as the central owner for trade plan data, reporting, and measurement.
  • Support process improvements related to trade planning, trade fund management, forecasting, and promotional effectiveness.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure trade plans are accurate, timely, and actionable.
