Under the indirect supervision of a dentist:
  • Perform mouth mirror inspection of the oral cavity.
  • Chart existing restorations and conditions as instructed by the dentist.
  • Prepare patients for treatment/seating/positioning chair/placing napkin.
  • Prep lab forms for signature by the dentist.
  • Maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Place and remove post-extraction dressings/monitor bleeding.
  • Polish coronal portion of teeth with rotary hand piece and rubber prophy cup or brush.
  • Transfer dental instruments.
  • Apply fluoride varnish.
  • Mix dental materials.
  • Take x-ray film and expose radiographs.
  • Preventive education and oral hygiene instruction.
  • Give oral hygiene instructions.
  • Sterilization and disinfection procedures.
  • Provide pre-and-post-operative instructions.
  • Make impressions.
  • Select and fit bands for cementation by dentist.
  • Compliance with OSHA regulations and Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
  • Take oxygen saturations and pulse.
  • Apply pit and fissure sealants.
  • Assist pediatric dentist chairside.
