Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 1 year of PICU experience and PALS certification.

Details
  • Work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of a Level 2 trauma acute care hospital
  • 8-bed unit with an average census of 4-5 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
  • Common diagnoses include respiratory conditions, DKA, trauma (MVAs and head trauma), broken bones, surgical cases, neuro/seizure disorders, and overdose/suicide cases
  • Care involves intubated patients, drip management, sedation, ICPs, and EVDs
  • RNs draw their own labs and titrate drips including cardiac, insulin, heparin, and sedation medications
  • RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips as there are no dedicated tele/monitor techs
  • Charge nurse takes an assignment and may modify as needed
  • No nurse aides are utilized on this unit
  • Intensivist is on-call within 10 minutes and residents are in house 24/7
  • Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
  • Night shift schedule from 1900-0730
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Self-scheduling in a tiered approach; block scheduling not permitted
  • Floating required within Peds, with potential floating to NICU if experienced, and all staff may float to adult areas as an observer depending on census
  • Travel duos accepted, with same weekends but not necessarily the same schedule
Requirements
  • Active RN license (WI or Compact) required by start date
  • Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA)
  • TNCC certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 1 year of PICU experience required
  • Experience with intubated patients, drip titration, sedation, ICPs, and EVDs required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • 2 current professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care to pediatric ICU patients including respiratory, trauma, surgical, and neuro cases
  • Unit orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation and 2 days of unit-specific orientation
  • Dress code requires clean, professional, peds-appropriate attire
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff at the facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
  • All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility
