Your Opportunity
Reporting to the Regional Delivery Leader (RDL), and working closely with the other Construction Management Services Discipline Leads within the US North Region, Business Center (BC) Leadership, Delivery Center Leadership, North American Discipline Leads (NADLs) for Construction, and Program Management/Construction Management (PMCM) leadership, the Construction Management Services Discipline Lead (CMSDL) provides leadership, governance, and delivery excellence for all Construction Management (CM) Services within their respective geography. The CMSDL builds and scales a consistent practice for CM, Resident Engineering (RE), and Inspection that delivers safe, high-quality, and profitable outcomes. The CMSDL is accountable for CM strategy, growth, and client leadership while driving Project Management (PM) Frameworks compliance, risk management, and project performance across CM-influenced projects.
Business Development & Client Focus
  • Fulfill client expectations through active Account Management (AM) for CM-influenced pursuits and projects.
  • Lead/participate in Top/Next 20 CM-influenced pursuits; develop win themes, CM staffing models, estimates, and value propositions.
  • Coach technical proposal content (approach, methods, risk, case studies, resumes); participate in orals and negotiations.
  • Build strategic relationships with clients, contractors, and partners; identify programs, alternative delivery, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) transitions.
  • Monitor pursuit success rate and ROI; increase market visibility via speaking, publishing, and industry leadership.
  • Develop and maintain strong contractor relationships within the Region.

Construction Delivery & Field Leadership
  • Serve as CM, RE, CM Advisor, Project Principal (CM), or Project Manager (PM) on major projects.
  • Lead Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) delivery; perform Technical Independent Reviews (TIRs) as required.
  • Establish field execution plans (mobilization, logistics, environmental controls, traffic, public communications).
  • Oversee submittals, RFIs, ITPs, daily reporting, materials verification, progress measurement, and pay application validation.
  • Implement field QA/QC; coordinate commissioning/startup and turnover (O&M manuals, as-builts, training, warranties).
  • Drive schedule and cost controls (baselines, updates, cost management, progress quantities, trends).
  • Lead change management (Technical Queries, Potential COs, negotiations, documentation) and claims avoidance/resolution with Legal/Commercial.
  • Lead constructability and readiness reviews; ensure documentation control and reuse of lessons learned.

Collaboration, Resourcing & Operations
  • Maintain forward-looking CM staffing estimates tied to NRF/pipeline and active needs; adjust recruiting/subcontracting accordingly.
  • Balance resources with the Regional Delivery Leader (RDL), PMCM peers, and Business Center Operations Leaders (BCOLs); maintain a capable RE/Inspector/CM network (e.g., tunneling, heavy civil, plant Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) / Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), pipelines).
  • Support PMs with baseline setup (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)/Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS), staffing plans, controls, startup/closeout checklists).

Practice Leadership, Governance & Culture
  • Maintain the regional CM operating model, playbooks, and SOPs aligned to PM Frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, client requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement via audits, After-Action Reviews, and knowledge management (templates, checklists, lessons learned library).
  • Standardize digital field execution (photo logs, daily reports, inspection checklists) and ensure data integrity for dashboards/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Champion Zero Harm and adherence to HSSE, Quality Management Plans, and site protocols (Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), JHAs/JSAs, stop-work authority).

Provide Broad Leadership Influence
  • Act as a strategic advisor to CM, Delivery, Business Center, and Regional leadership teams.
  • Be directly involved in key client relationships, strategic pursuits, and project delivery.
  • Advance a high-performance culture focused on innovation, efficiency, and productivity across distributed teams.
  • Collaborate across Regions/Business Lines to leverage capabilities.

People Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build and strengthen the CM/RE/Inspection team; drive recruiting, onboarding, and succession planning.
  • Define competencies and career paths; lead training on means & methods, contracts, documentation, HSSE, and QA/QC.
  • Foster inclusion, engagement, and professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and recognition.
  • Participate in office and regional meetings to communicate vision, strategy, and progress.

Capabilities & Credentials
  • Proven record of building client relationships and winning work.
  • Ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork across geographies and business centers.
  • Excellent organization, coordination, collaboration, management, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in Water and CMS; experience with alternative delivery (DB/ CMAR) advantageous.
  • Strong strategic planning and delivery experience; commercial acumen (scope, risk, margin).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency with eBuilder/Procore, ProjectWise/SharePoint, Primavera P6/Microsoft Project, and cost controls; strong Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Power BI/Lists).
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil/Environmental Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 15+ years in construction/CM for water/wastewater or related infrastructure; program leadership preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus.

Pay Range:
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas-$151,700.00 - $227,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
