Train new phlebotomists and assess competency of current phlebotomists. Train and educate students rotating through the department and performing internships for phlebotomist education requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Two (2) years of experience as a phlebotomist.

2. Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Train new phlebotomists according to laboratory SOP and document training.
2. Perform annual phlebotomy competency assessments for inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy.
3. Assist with writing and reviewing of phlebotomy related SOPs.
4. Understand the workflow and processes for both inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy.
5. Oversee the training of students from affiliated phlebotomy training programs.
6. Maintain training documents to ensures that these documents are consistent with current practice, laboratory standard operating procedures, and current regulatory requirements.
7. Perform blood collection using established laboratory guidelines designed to acquire acceptable specimens used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to meet the needs of our patients.
8. Maintain effective communication with the laboratory sections, leadership, coworkers, personnel and other departments to identify educational needs and provide problem resolution in support of the hospital's mission of patient care.
9. Refer to manager or nursing staff as appropriate any technical problems or unusual patient occurrences.
10. Communicate all appropriate information to patients and/or the public as necessary for their understanding of the procedure before, during and after the designated procedure.
11. Provide classroom and hands-on teaching to nurses at orientation or during continuing education classes.
12. Participate in educational endeavors of the institution to meet the current and future needs of the phlebotomy service, laboratory, and hospital in support of the hospital's mission of patient care, teaching, and research.

1. Heavy/hard work: Work requires stamina, moving, stooping, bending, reaching, standing, pushing (cart), lifting and loading supplies (onto the cart) and walking
2. Ability to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for entire shift.
