The Donor Collections Technician reports to the Manager, Donor Collections and is responsible for performing whole blood collection procedures and allied activities in the donor room in accordance with BBD guidelines. We train individuals that are naturally welcoming and committed to carrying out our mission by providing excellent customer service to our donors. This position is considered “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events.

  • 6-8 Weeks of paid training. First 3-4 weeks of classroom training takes place in our Christiana Donor Center/HQ in Newark, DE.
  • Prepares for donor interviews and blood collection by ensuring that interview materials and phlebotomy equipment and supplies are set up and/or operable in keeping with QC standards.
  • Conducts donor interviews in a confidential professional manner to determine donor eligibilities according to BBD standards.
  • Initiates whole blood procedures and monitors the donor’s progress, according to BBD collection guidelines. Ensures the unit weight is within BBD standard and was collected within acceptable time frame. Provides prompt responses to adverse donor reactions.
  • Performs post draw activities including but not limited to cleaning equipment, re-stocking supplies, and removing/storing supplies in a controlled area. Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties including, but not limited to, recruiting and scheduling of automated donor appointments, biohazard cleanups, dating of supplies, re-stocking, recovery room duty, posting phlebotomy and screening results, and directing donors to the canteen.
  • Greets donors warmly and performs registration of donors in the BBCS system. Provides donors with required educational materials.
  • Will be assigned to other fixed sites or mobile blood drives as needed.

  • Valid Driver’s License is required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of face-to-face customer service experience
  • Minimum of 1 years of successfully managing multiple tasks in a fast paced working environment
