The Pharmacy Technician - Operating Room, Evenings supports one of Cleveland Clinic's highest-volume inpatient pharmacy operations at Main Campus, with a primary focus on serving the operating room while collaborating across multiple inpatient service lines, including oncology, sterile products, pediatrics, and general inpatient care. Caregivers receive comprehensive training and support daily pharmacy operations through medication preparation and distribution, medication deliveries throughout Main Campus, automated carousel operations, phone triage, and management of MAR messaging to assist inpatient care teams. This active role requires frequent travel throughout the hospital and offers extensive cross-training opportunities. Upon successful completion of training and demonstrated competencies, caregivers may have the opportunity to transfer into one of several specialized pharmacy areas, including IV services, ambulatory pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and home care, based on departmental needs.
A caregiver in this position works either a variable or evening schedule based on the role. Variable shift caregivers rotate between 6:45am to 3:15pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm, typically working three weeks on day shift followed by one week on evening shift. Evening shift caregivers work 2:00pm to 10:30pm. Both schedules include an every third weekend rotation.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterilecompoundingand sterile compounding.
- Deliver medications to theappropriate storagelocations inan accurateandtimelymanner.
- Maintainaccurateandappropriate inventoriesof medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area bycomplying withprocedures, rules and regulations, anddocumentregulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduledactivitiesand training.
- Use information systems,technologyand automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Assistwiththe training ofpharmacycaregiversand students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
- Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Six months of hospital experience
- Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $21.50
Maximum hourly: $31.00
