Overview
The Associate Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services provides operational, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the clinical pharmacy service line. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, this role supports the execution of clinical pharmacy and medication management strategies to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, population health goals, value-based care objectives, and regulatory requirements.
This position provides oversight for assigned clinical pharmacy programs, services, leaders, champions, and program owners. The Associate Director supports standardization, performance accountability, service-line growth, quality outcomes, and effective care delivery across clinical pharmacy services. This role serves as a key link between strategy and operations, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to optimize medication management, improve patient outcomes, and advance clinical pharmacy practice across the organization.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
-Partner with the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services to implement clinical pharmacy and medication management strategies aligned with organizational priorities, population health goals, and value-based care objectives.-Provide operational and programmatic oversight for assigned clinical pharmacy services, including comprehensive medication management, medication access programs, clinical pharmacy technician services, population health initiatives, and other assigned service-line programs.-Supervise, coach, and develop assigned clinical pharmacy leaders, champions, program owners, and team members; support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, competency validation, performance management, and leadership development.-Monitor service-line performance, including quality, safety, access, productivity, financial performance, patient outcomes, and operational benchmarks; identify opportunities for improvement and support sustainable solutions.-Lead implementation and standardization of clinical pharmacy programs, protocols, collaborative practice agreements, standard operating procedures, care pathways, and medication-use processes across sites.-Collaborate with providers, operational leaders, informatics teams, and interdisciplinary partners to improve medication management, optimize EHR workflows and clinical decision support tools, and address medicationrelated care needs.-Support budget planning, forecasting, resource allocation, staffing models, vendor and contract evaluation, and care model optimization for the clinical pharmacy service line.-Ensure clinical pharmacy services comply with regulatory, accreditation, contractual, and organizational standards, including applicable pharmacy laws, collaborative practice requirements, evidence-based practices, and training/accreditation expectations.-Lead or support quality improvement, research, provider education, medication-use evaluations, prescribing trend reviews, and special projects that advance clinical pharmacy practice and patient outcomes.-Serve as an escalation point for complex clinical, operational, and service-line issues, providing guidance, resolution support, and leadership representation as needed.-Support the development and mentorship of pharmacy leaders, pharmacists, residents, students, and learners to meet service-line, contractual, educational, and accreditation expectations.-Provide direct patient care as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist based on organizational needs, up to 20 hours or 50% of scheduled work time.-Lead special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
-Doctoral or Professional PharmD Degree
-Completion of PGY-1 residency OR PGY-2 residency
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
-6 years of related clinical pharmacy experience in drug therapy management under collaborative practice
-3 years of leadership experience with direct supervision, team development, and program/service line oversight
