Pest Control Operator Jobs in Texas (NOW HIRING)

Education/Certification:

• Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Valid class "C" Texas Driver's License, and be insurable by the district. Valid noncommercial certified applicator license granted by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Required: Required Master level trades license, if applicable. Experience in supervising multi craft trades. Ability to organize, coordinates multi craft trades, effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to organize, coordinates multiple projects. Exhibit strong communication, interaction, and leadership skills. Knowledge of the repair techniques required in maintaining commercial buildings. Knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools, machines and equipment used in the repair, maintenance, upkeep of facilities and ability to operate pesticide application equipment. Knowledge of applicable State and Local Codes and ability to implement policy and procedures.  Knowledge of methods and materials for pest control and TDA regulations.

Technology Proficiency:

• Required: Basic computer operation preferred, e.g. word processing, use of Email.

Experience Required:

• Five (5) years' experience in a supervisory capacity of commercial or educational facilities.
• One (1) year pest control applicator experience.

Function

Perform and supervise a variety of skilled craft work in the maintenance and upkeep of school buildings, facilities, and miscellaneous equipment; perform skilled craft work in one or more of the buildings; maintenance trades; responsible for the district integrated pest control management program; oversee and apply pesticides and herbicides according to the district pest management policy; perform other related work as may be required.

Responsibilities:

Structural Control

• Demonstrate supervisory ability.
• Demonstrate the willingness to work overtime if necessary to ensure that job requirements are satisfied and when emergency situations arise.
• Plans, supervises and assists in the maintenance of district facilities.
• Implement the district integrated pest control program for the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical agents to control pests, rodents, insects, and weeds at district buildings and facilities.
• Ensure all pesticides used on district property comply with district policy and TDA requirements.
• Assumes the responsibility for quality and economical repair of district facilities.
• Establishes and maintains a preventative maintenance program.
• Obtains required permits from local governmental agencies.
• Ensures a safe work environment is maintained at all times.
• Assumes responsibility of safe operation and care of assigned service vehicle, tools, and equipment.
• Assures that proper time, material, and work related data is noted on all work orders.
• Maintain files required, including pesticide application records, pesticide labels, Material Safety Data Sheets, and records of duplications.
• Assumes responsibility for the quality control of all work done.
• Adheres to district guidelines and policies in the purchase of material, equipment, and tools.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Label and secure pesticides.
• Participates in required TDA Structural Pest Control Service integrated pest management training courses.

Communication

• Coordinates and supervise multi-trade facility renovations
• Work within assigned vertical team and/or districtwide.
• Ability to communicate with contractors and vendors.
• Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels within the school district.
• Meets with appropriate contractors.
• Works with staff in administering growth plan programs.
• Evaluates the performance of subordinates.
• Communicate with district administrators and staff about integrated pest management, including training, notice and posting, sanitation, and pesticide storage. Post appropriate notice in district facilities prior to planned pesticide treatment according to TDA requirements.
• Respond to requests and inquires relating to pest problems from staff, students, parents, and the public.

Safety

• Ensure all school employees who perform pest control have the necessary training and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. Inspect tools and equipment for safety efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Tools/Equipment Used:  Power and hand-held sprayer application equipment; hand tools; power tools; light truck or van
• Posture:  Frequent standing, keeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Motion:  Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
• Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
• Environment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (pesticides) hazards, noxious odors; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
