JOB OVERVIEW:

The Engineering Assistant Manager is responsible for coordinating between Wire 3’s engineering firm and local municipalities to ensure permitted work is secured on schedule. This role serves as Wire 3’s primary point of contact with local municipalities — attending face-to-face meetings, managing project coordination, and building Wire 3’s reputation within each market. Engineering project requests are managed through Zendesk, from intake through completion, and the Engineering Assistant Manager is accountable for keeping design, permitting, and locate footage and pass counts on pace with construction goals. This role is the front line in keeping Wire 3’s network growth moving forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive, triage, and manage assigned engineering project requests through Zendesk from intake to completion; maintain all tracking and reporting of Wire 3 engineering projects within the platform
  • Take ownership of regional and sub-regional FTTH deployment success; manage defined KPI metrics including designed, permitted, and located footage and pass counts
  • Maintain defined backlogs of buildable construction segments to ensure continuous construction readiness
  • Create contractor packages and assign work to contractors; coordinate with contractors and construction teams on build completion
  • Work with the Locates Coordinator to ensure all assigned segments are beginning in a timely manner
  • Attend municipality meetings on behalf of Wire 3 and the PMO department; build and maintain productive working relationships with local governing bodies and permitting offices
  • Run department reporting and forecasting in coordination with other Wire 3 departments; assist in future build planning based on build plan forecast
  • Maintain budgets and handle department audits on all manageable material
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to maintain service delivery pace
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with Zendesk or similar project and ticket management platforms for project tracking, reporting, and visibility
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to represent Wire 3 professionally in municipality meetings and contractor interactions
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engineering projects across different stages
  • Familiarity with FTTH OSP and ISP construction workflows, permitting processes, and construction sequencing
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to track and report on KPI metrics including footage, pass counts, and permit timelines
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across Construction, PMO, Locates, and vendor teams

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of project management experience in OSP and/or ISP construction or telecommunications infrastructure required
  • Experience working with municipalities, permitting offices, or local governing agencies preferred
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Work performed in a combination of office and field environments
  • Must be able to travel locally to municipality meetings, construction sites, and vendor locations as needed
