Job description

Duties Description Duties include, but may not be limited to: Coordinate and supervise complex electrical engineering design projects. Designate type of electrical system to be used for projects, assign, supervise and check the design work of subordinates. Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines

Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules. Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants. Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.

Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project's construction. Perform a full range of supervisory duties. Perform other duties as assigned.

Operational Needs: Travel may be required (approximately 20%). Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. Notes: *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position.

Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.

While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Salary Adjustments for Positions in Albany Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000. The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs.

Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OGS D&C employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position: A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below. Qualifying degrees: Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.

OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK
