Position: Mainframe developer

Location: Charlotte, NC

Job Type: Contract

Job Summary:-

We are seeking experienced technical professionals to provide development, production support, and deep diagnostic expertise for a large, mission-critical legacy commercial loan accounting platform. This highly customized system is based on Level 3 from AFS, built in COBOL and operating through a 3270 interface, with extensive online transaction processing via CICS and a complex VSAM master file architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Development & Enhancement

o Maintain and enhance COBOL-based mainframe applications supporting commercial loan accounting.

o Implement new features and optimize existing code for performance and reliability.

• Production Support & Diagnostics

o Provide L2/L3 support for mission-critical applications, ensuring system stability and availability.

o Perform deep diagnostic analysis, troubleshoot incidents, and deliver permanent resolutions.

o Manage large-scale batch processing environments using CA7 scheduling, coordinating complex inbound and outbound file exchanges.

• System Integration

o Support real-time integrations, including synchronous web-based interactions via CICS Web Services (CWSDirect).

o Manage asynchronous messaging and system interoperability through MQ.

• Collaboration & Communication

o Work closely with deconversion teams and interface partners across multiple upstream and downstream systems.

o Document processes, provide clear technical communication, and ensure smooth coordination in a highly interdependent environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2.

• Experience with CA7 scheduling and large-scale batch environments.
