As the Manager of the Materials & Fuels Performance Testing, you will guide expert teams producing innovative experimental data through both conventional and novel testing methods. You'll drive the branch's resources and strategic activities to advance CNL, Science &Technology,and Directorate missions while aligning with national industry and government priorities. What will you be doing!

  • Program & Project Leadership:
    • Executing projects and programs to meet customer requirements, including those of the nuclear industry and Federal S&T stakeholders.
    • Prioritizing and adjusting resources to ensure successful delivery.
    • Driving business execution for the branch's focus areas.
    • Contributing to the S&T vision and mission for CNL, S&T, and the directorate.
    • Supporting work and deliverables through strong knowledge of the technical area, environment, policy, customers, and marketplace.
    • Identifying and pursuing research growth by anticipating client and market needs and recommending appropriate actions.
    • Defining, developing, and leading collaborations that expand programs and capabilities.
    • Developing commercialization opportunities to drive program growth and enhance CNL's impact.
  • Branch Leadership & People Development:
    • Providing aspirational leadership that inspires excellence within the branch.
    • Fostering integrated, productive relationships within and across directorates to support shared success.
    • Modelling integrity, leading by example, and reinforcing expectations for a strong safety and security culture.

    • Nurturing and enhancing scientific capabilities within the branch, including staff, facilities, and equipment.

    • Utilizing facility resources effectively to ensure program delivery.
    • Developing, maintaining, and supporting procurement of equipment and facilities required to meet mission objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • A Degree from a University of recognized standing; a Ph.D. or Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field is preferred.
    • A broad scientific/engineering background, acquired through formal education, is required.
  • Experience
    • 10 to 12 years of technical project/process experience.
    • A minimum of two (2) years in a technical, project, or management leadership role is required.
    • Experience in innovation and program/project management, including the management of people, processes, customers, and financial performance, is required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • A good understanding of the Canadian and global nuclear power landscape, R&D needs in the areas under purview, process/product qualification, and technology/program/project management. management objectives related to people, processes, customers and financial performance, is required.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • Visiting laboratories, Customer sites, and accessing areas through stairs, ladders, or on foot will be required infrequently.
  • Remote working may be required periodically.
  • Extended travel may be required periodically.
