The Principal Manager, Email Performance owns the optimization, measurement, and continuous improvement of the email channel across the customer lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and execution-driving measurable impact through data-led decision-making, experimentation, and close partnership with IT, analytics, digital product, and marketing teams. 

This leader is responsible for translating business goals into email performance strategies, ensuring campaigns and automated journeys deliver against engagement, conversion, and retention KPIs. 

 

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our Marlborough, Massachusetts, or Arden Hills, Minnesota, office at least three days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

Email Performance Strategy & Optimization 

  • Own the email performance framework, including KPIs, benchmarks, testing methodology, and reporting standards. 
  • Translate business objectives into measurable email goals (engagement, conversion, retention, revenue, or activation). 
  • Identify performance gaps and optimization opportunities across campaigns, automations, and lifecycle journeys. 
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using data, insights, and experimentation. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow a high-quality, first-party email subscriber base across owned digital touchpoints, while maintaining consent and list quality standards. 

 

Analytics, Testing & Insights 

  • Analyze email performance across segments, journeys, and audiences to uncover trends and insights. 
  • Design and oversee A/B and multivariate testing for email channel in partnership with Personalization manager (subject lines, content, cadence, personalization, send-time optimization). 
  • Partner with data and analytics teams to ensure accurate tracking, attribution, and data integrity. 
  • Communicate insights clearly to stakeholders and recommend actionable next steps. 

 

Lifecycle & Personalization 

  • Optimize performance across key lifecycle stages (onboarding, engagement, retention, reactivation). 
  • Leverage segmentation, behavioral triggers, and personalization to improve relevance and results. 
  • Partner with CRM and marketing teams to ensure email is fully integrated into the broader customer journey. 

 

Deliverability & Channel Health 

  • Monitor and improve deliverability, list health, and sender reputation. 
  • Partner with technical teams to manage authentication, compliance, governance, development requirements and inbox placement best practices. 
  • Ensure adherence to privacy, consent, and regulatory requirements. 

 

Cross-Functional Leadership 

  • Act as the email performance subject-matter expert, influencing strategy across BU and Regional teams. 
  • Collaborate closely with content, design, marketing operations and strategy, and IT partners. 
  • Prioritize the development acting as product manager for our email channel, translate business requirements to partners in  IT to deliver enhancements to support marketing.  
  • Mentor or guide email marketers and specialists on performance best practices. 

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience in email marketing, lifecycle marketing, or CRM, with a strong focus on performance optimization. 
  • Proven experience owning email KPIs, reporting, and testing programs. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into clear insights and recommendations. 
  • Hands-on experience with email and marketing automation platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, Marketo). 
  • Deep understanding of email deliverability, segmentation, and personalization. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working within healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical or other regulated industries.
  • Experience with customer data platforms (CDPs), business intelligence (BI) tools and advanced analytics.
  • Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning tools to improve targeting, testing, or performance insights.
