What is a performance manager?

A performance manager seeks to create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations. Rather than a traditional corporate system of employee appraisal and evaluation, performance managers try to communicate end goals and align each employee’s work with these aims. In this role, you may seek the development of benchmarks so that the company’s departments or groups can measure their progress concretely. This is an ongoing effort. Benchmarks and goals must change, so you must continually find new ways to measure progress and to inspire effort.

How does a performance manager typically collaborate with other departments to drive organizational success?

Performance Managers work closely with leaders and teams across departments—such as HR, operations, and finance—to align performance metrics with organizational goals. They often facilitate regular meetings to review progress, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that support both team development and business objectives. Effective collaboration ensures that performance initiatives are integrated and sustained throughout the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a performance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Manager, you need a strong background in analytics, goal-setting frameworks, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with performance management systems, HR analytics tools, and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving employee productivity, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Job description

Senior Performance Marketing Manager

We’re assisting an international performance-driven business in finding a Senior Performance Marketing Manager to take ownership of user acquisition across a portfolio of client accounts.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone who knows paid acquisition inside and out and is comfortable making decisions where the numbers matter. You’ll have direct influence over significant media budgets, work closely with creative specialists, and partner with clients and senior leadership to turn performance data into clear, practical action.

The focus is straightforward: build and scale acquisition programs that deliver. You’ll be trusted to manage substantial spend, identify what’s working, move quickly when it isn’t, and continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and growth.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a key member of the performance marketing function, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day and strategic management of acquisition performance across your assigned accounts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Take ownership of user acquisition results across multiple client accounts, with performance measured against ROAS, CPR, and cost-per-FTD targets.
  • Establish performance goals alongside clients and internal leadership, track progress closely, and act quickly when campaigns fall short of expectations.
  • Develop, launch, manage, and optimize campaigns across Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Google, and programmatic platforms.
  • Manage multi-million-dollar monthly media budgets, determining where spend should be increased, reduced, or shifted based on performance.
  • Continuously improve campaign efficiency through audience strategy, bidding, placements, account structure, and creative rotation.
  • Build a disciplined experimentation process covering audiences, creative concepts, placements, landing pages, and other key elements of the acquisition funnel.
  • Work closely with internal art and motion teams to establish creative priorities, develop testing briefs, and ensure advertising assets meet platform and market requirements.
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of conversion and attribution tracking, including Meta Conversions API, server-side tracking, and server-to-server postbacks.
  • Develop reporting that connects the entire acquisition journey — from initial impression through conversion and deposit — including cohort and lifetime-value analysis.
  • Regularly communicate performance insights, challenges, opportunities, and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce AI and automation into campaign management, reporting, analysis, and creative workflows, improving both efficiency and speed of execution.
  • Stay ahead of changes to advertising platforms, privacy requirements, attribution models, and policy updates, adjusting strategies before they become performance issues.
  • Explore and test emerging channels and new acquisition opportunities where they can contribute meaningful growth.
What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a strong fit if you combine deep platform expertise with commercial judgment and a genuine interest in understanding why campaigns perform the way they do.

We’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in performance marketing, paid media, or user acquisition, including direct management of advertising platforms.
  • Strong, demonstrated expertise in Meta Ads. You should have personally managed and scaled Meta campaigns at significant spend levels and be comfortable explaining your approach to account structure, bidding, audience strategy, and testing.
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar media budgets and a clear track record of delivering measurable performance.
  • Experience overseeing several accounts, brands, or clients at the same time without losing sight of individual performance goals.
  • Strong knowledge of web and desktop acquisition, including conversion rate optimization, funnel analysis, landing-page testing, and conversion event strategy.
  • Practical understanding of Meta Conversions API, server-side tracking, and server-to-server postbacks, including the ability to investigate tracking and attribution problems.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data, assess test results, understand statistical significance, and turn complex findings into straightforward recommendations.
  • The confidence and communication skills to present performance results and strategic recommendations directly to clients and senior decision-makers.
Nice to Have

It would be particularly valuable if you also bring:

  • Experience in iGaming, sweepstakes, sports betting, or another high-LTV and highly regulated industry.
  • Previous agency experience or a strong background working directly with external clients.
  • Additional experience across TikTok, Snapchat, Google Ads, or DSP/programmatic platforms.
  • Experience with mobile user acquisition and tools such as AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Branch.
  • Experience developing AI-supported or automation-led systems for media buying, reporting, analysis, or campaign operations.
  • If you haven’t worked in iGaming, experience scaling Meta campaigns within B2C e-commerce, subscription businesses, fintech, or similarly performance-driven environments is highly relevant.
What You Can Expect

This is a role where your level of responsibility will match your level of experience.

You’ll have genuine authority over significant media budgets and direct ownership of the outcomes those investments generate. You’ll work alongside senior leadership as well as an in-house creative and motion team, giving you the support and resources to move quickly from insight to execution.

The role also offers a competitive base salary with a performance-based bonus tied to measurable results, along with the opportunity to grow with an expanding international organization and potentially move into a broader team leadership position.

Interested?

If you enjoy working where strategy, data, creativity, and commercial results all come together — and you’re the kind of performance marketer who wants to own the numbers rather than simply report on them — this could be a strong next step.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, analytical, decisive, and comfortable operating at scale. If that sounds like you, we’d be happy to hear from you.
