Job description

Northern Plains Surgery Center is hiring for a casual (per diem) Registered Nurse for their Ambulatory Surgery Center!
Position Summary:
Responsible for LPN's assigned to patient care as well as providing direct patient care in the pre and post-operative phase. Ensures quality care is provided to all patients amp; is involved with the QA program. Reports to ASC Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patients, and coordinates activities of care with other disciplines involved.
  • Assesses patient needs, problems, and concerns.
  • Identifies above in priority for action with consultation as needed, including notification of physician of changes in patients' condition.
  • Makes plan for patient care:
  • Provides direct nursing care.
  • Teaches amp; supervises care given by other staff as needed.
  • Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
  • Maintains patient records and charts.
  • Evaluates outcomes of care and adjusts nursing care process as necessary. Participates in Quality Assurance activities.
  • Participates in conferences, committee meetings, and educational programs to meet personal, professional, institutional certification and regulatory requirements, as needed.
  • Institutes emergency care appropriately accurately, and professionally.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the diversity of patients served.
  • Accepts responsibility for patient safety and assures safe practice. Assures that necessary supplies or equipment are available before patient admission.
  • Demonstrates competency necessary to perform patient care.
  • Keep the ASC Coordinator informed of any problems with patients, other staff, physicians, equipment or supplies.
  • Adheres to HIPPA and OSHA guidelines/rules and regulations
Education, skills, and Experience
  • Current and valid North Dakota RN license. Minnesota licensure if completing pre and post-op patient phone calls.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS/PALS Certification preferred.
  • ACLS/PALS certification if primary nurse in PACU, or if providing Conscious Sedation.
  • IV therapy certification and experience or willingness to achieve in first 6 months.
  • CPAN- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse desirable but not required for PACU nurse.
Physical Requirements
Must exhibit desirable trunk and extremity mobility and strength to handle objects and people safely in the activities of holding, carrying, pushing, transferring and pulling. Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds safely.
