Description

Lifesaving & Life-Changing Work

A career at Mid-America Transplant means giving hope and healing to the 100,000+ patients on the transplant waiting list, bringing peace to families in mourning, building a legacy for donors, and stewarding their lifesaving gifts. No matter what role you play or how challenging the work can sometimes be, we find that helping save and celebrate the lives of others often changes your own life in the process. Join the Mid-America Transplant team. It's the toughest job you'll ever love.

What We Do

Simply put, we help save lives — and we're proud to say we've been nationally recognized for how well we do it. We conduct and fund transplant and life-changing research. We educate the public to prevent medical issues which in turn can help prevent the need for a transplant. We offer grief resources to donor families. Pioneer new protocols that improve the viability of organ and tissue donations. We provide affordable, temporary housing for transplant patients and their families. We partner with community organizations to not only drive donor registration, but to raise awareness of organ and tissue transplantation. We meet with schools, clergy, and local leaders to share our cause and our message. We stop at nothing because we're the kind of people who give everything.

Exciting and Challenging Work

As an Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC), you will play a crucial role in maximizing organ donation. You will be responsible for the evaluation, optimization and allocation of organs to ensure that donation is maximized for the waiting recipients and our selfless donor families. This dynamic role involves close collaboration with healthcare professionals across not only our service area, but across the country, logistical coordination, and direct involvement in the organ procurement processes.

What You'll Do

25% Clinical Donor Management

  • Autonomously manage the clinical care of brain-dead donor heroes at our facility
    • Including managing donor lab values, hemodynamics, and ventilation to ensure organ viability
    • Perform critical procedures like bronchoscopies, central line placement, and liver biopsies to both evaluate and optimize organ function
  • DCD (Donation after circulatory death) donor management of donor heroes inside our partner hospital facilities
    • Partnering with hospital staff to clinically manage donor patients, to ensure organs are optimized for potential transplantation.

75% Organ Allocation and Logistics

  • Manage organ allocation according to UNOS and Mid-America Transplant policies
  • Ensure close collaboration with transplant centers and surgeons
  • Coordinate OR times and facilitate communication with transplant center staff during organ procurement procedures

What You'll Bring

  • Registered Nurse with either 2+ years of ER experience OR 1+ years of ICU experience required
  • Diverse ICU experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding and comfortability using clinical equipment and software systems (i.e. EMRs, navigation of websites)
  • A drive and initiative to learn new skills
  • A willingness to work in a totally new environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations and make critical decisions
  • BLS or ACLS Certifications; PALS Certification a plus
  • CCRN certification a plus

Schedule

  • Weekday Nights. This position works the following:
    • Fourteen 12-hour on call shifts (7p-7a) in a 28-day period including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every fourth weekend.

What We'll Bring

  • 401(k) Retirement Match - offering up to a 5% match of annual salary starting the 1st day of the month following your start date
