Job description

TITLE: Substitute Teacher (Per Diem) - District Wide

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Substitute teachers are needed throughout the district at all levels to assist with daily classroom functions, implementing lesson plans, and monitoring and supporting students. There is availability in nearly all departments, but the particular areas of need include: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), World Languages, and Special Education.

NOTE: Interviews are scheduled approximately once per month, so please note that it may be a several weeks until you hear from Human Resources about an appointment. Thank you in advance for your interest!


CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info here - total cost is $70)
  • At least two years of college (60 credits) preferred

HOURLY RATES FOR 2026-2027:

  • Less Than a Bachelor's Degree: $18.57 per hour
  • Bachelor's Degree: $24.75 per hour
  • Maine certified teacher or PPS retired teacher: $25.87 per hour

BENEFITS:

  • This position is per diem, and not eligible for employer benefits
  • Substitutes do accrue Earned Paid Leave (EPL) as per Maine law
    • 1 hour of leave for every 40 hours worked
