Their main role is to prepare patients for surgery by conducting assessments, reviewing medical histories, starting IVs, and providing education about the surgical procedure. A Per Diem Pre Op RN needs a solid background in preoperative patient assessment, nursing fundamentals, and an active RN license, often with experience in surgical or ambulatory care settings. Familiarity with perioperative documentation systems, electronic health records, and pre-op protocols is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing patient needs are important soft skills. These competencies ensure patient safety, efficient workflow, and high-quality care in a dynamic preoperative environment.
