Unlike full-time or part-time staff, per diem RNs have flexible schedules and are called in to fill staffing gaps due to absences, increased patient volume, or specific needs. They perform typical nursing duties such as patient assessments, administering medications, and providing education, but their hours and shifts can vary widely based on the facility's requirements.
