Per Diem Lesson Planning involves creating daily lesson plans for substitute teachers to implement, focusing on curriculum delivery. Substitute Teachers, on the other hand, execute these plans in classrooms, managing student activities. While both roles are essential in education, Per Diem Lesson Planning emphasizes preparation, whereas Substitute Teaching emphasizes classroom instruction.

How does a per diem lesson planner typically collaborate with full-time teaching staff to ensure lesson alignment and continuity?

Per Diem Lesson Planners usually work closely with full-time teachers and curriculum coordinators to maintain consistency in instructional delivery. They often review existing lesson plans, adapt materials to meet classroom needs, and communicate with regular staff to understand ongoing student objectives. Collaboration may involve attending team meetings, sharing feedback, and updating digital planning tools to ensure smooth transitions and continuity for students. This teamwork helps maintain educational standards and provides support for both students and permanent staff.

What is a per diem lesson planner?

A Per Diem Lesson Planner is an education professional who is hired on a temporary, as-needed basis to create lesson plans for teachers or schools. These planners may be called in when regular staff are unavailable or when there is a need for specialized lesson development. They ensure that instructional goals are met by designing structured, standards-aligned daily or unit plans. Their flexibility allows schools to address short-term curriculum needs without long-term commitments. Per diem positions are typically paid by the day or by the project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem lesson planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Per Diem Lesson Planner, you generally need a solid background in education or subject expertise, along with experience in curriculum development and lesson design. Familiarity with digital lesson planning tools, learning management systems (LMS), and state or district educational standards is typically required. Strong organizational skills, creativity, and effective communication help individuals excel in creating engaging, adaptable lesson plans on short notice. These skills ensure that high-quality, standards-aligned instruction can be delivered efficiently, even in dynamic or substitute teaching environments.

Are you energetic, dependable, and enthusiastic about working with children? Snapology of Lancaster is seeking Weekend & Evening Program Facilitators to lead hands-on programs, birthday parties, and special events for children ages 4–14.

This flexible, as-needed position is ideal for college students, childcare professionals, teachers, paraprofessionals, retirees, and others looking for meaningful occasional work. We provide the curriculum, materials, paid training, and ongoing support—no lesson planning or teaching certification is required.

Schedule

Shifts are offered as programming needs arise and may include:

  • Saturday morning programs, typically scheduled between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM
  • Saturday birthday parties, typically scheduled between 11:30 AM and 5:00 PM
  • Parents’ Night Out programs from approximately 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, usually once or twice per month
  • Occasional weekday-evening programs, typically between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM
  • Special events and other local programs

No Sunday availability is required. Snapology is closed on Sundays.

This is a per-diem position and does not guarantee a set number of weekly hours. Facilitators may accept available shifts based on their availability, but dependable Saturday and evening availability is important.

  • A fun, supportive, team-oriented work environment
  • Snapology shirt provided with casual dress expectations
  • Valuable experience in education, child development, leadership, and youth programming
