What is a per diem doctor?

A per diem doctor is a physician who works on an as-needed basis rather than following a set schedule or holding a permanent position at one healthcare facility. These doctors are often hired to fill temporary gaps in staffing, such as covering vacations, sick leaves, or times of increased patient demand. Per diem doctors have the flexibility to choose their assignments and work hours, which can be especially appealing for those seeking a better work-life balance or supplemental income. They may work in hospitals, clinics, or other health care settings, and are typically paid a daily or hourly rate rather than a salary.

Is 20 patients a day too much?

Per Diem Doctors often see varying patient loads depending on the setting, but seeing 20 patients a day is generally considered manageable in outpatient or urgent care environments. Factors such as appointment length, documentation requirements, and the need for thorough patient care influence workload capacity.

What is the highest paying per diem job?

Per diem doctors in specialized fields such as anesthesiology, radiology, or emergency medicine tend to earn the highest hourly rates due to their advanced skills and demand. These roles often require board certification and can pay significantly more than general practitioners or primary care physicians working on a per diem basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Per Diem Doctor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Per Diem Doctor, you need a medical degree, active state licensure, and broad clinical expertise to handle diverse patient cases across various settings. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, telemedicine platforms, and up-to-date certifications like ACLS or BLS are typically required. Strong adaptability, effective communication, and the ability to quickly integrate into new teams are crucial soft skills for success. These competencies ensure high-quality patient care, seamless workflow integration, and flexibility in meeting the dynamic needs of healthcare facilities.
