The term 'per diem' means 'per day,' and in this context, it can refer to students who attend classes or participate in college activities on an as-needed basis. These students may not be seeking a degree but might be taking individual courses for personal or professional development. Per diem students often have more flexible schedules, which can be ideal for working professionals or those with other commitments. Policies and definitions may vary by institution.

Job description

Per Diem Staff Therapist (Temporary)
Brandeis University Counseling Center | Waltham, MA
$75/hour | 7-21 hours per week | Through May 15
Two positions available
Are you passionate about supporting college student mental health in a dynamic, diverse campus community? The Brandeis Counseling Center is seeking two Per Diem Staff Therapists to join our team on a temporary basis to help meet student care needs this spring.
In this role, you will provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strength-based mental health care to undergraduate and graduate students. You will work with a collaborative team of clinicians while supporting students through individual therapy, group treatment, crisis support, and community outreach.
This is an excellent opportunity for clinicians who enjoy short-term, high-impact work in a university counseling setting and who value inclusive, identity-affirming care.
What You Will Do
  • Provide individual and group therapy for college students
  • Conduct assessments, triage, and crisis intervention
  • Deliver trauma-informed and culturally adaptive care
  • Participate in community outreach, workshops, and consultation
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student wellbeing
  • Contribute to team meetings, documentation, and program initiatives

Clinicians may also bring or develop a specialty area, such as trauma, substance use, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ populations, Mandarin-speaking students, or other areas relevant to student wellbeing.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling (or PhD/PsyD in a related field)
  • LICSW or LMHC license in Massachusetts
  • Experience providing therapy to young adults or college students preferred
  • Commitment to multicultural, trauma-informed, and strengths-based clinical practice

If you are looking for meaningful, flexible clinical work supporting students during a critical time in the academic year, we encourage you to apply.
Apply today and help support student mental health at Brandeis.
