What is a people greeter?

People Greeters are employees, typically found at retail stores or large establishments, who welcome customers as they enter the building. Their role often includes offering a friendly greeting, answering basic questions, and sometimes checking receipts or assisting with directions. People Greeters are important for creating a positive first impression and enhancing customer service. They may also help deter theft and provide assistance to customers who need extra help.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a people greeter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a People Greeter, you need excellent interpersonal skills, basic literacy, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, visitor management software, or handheld communication devices is sometimes required. Outstanding customer service, patience, and a friendly demeanor are crucial soft skills for making positive first impressions. These abilities ensure guests feel welcomed and supported, contributing to a positive environment and smooth operations.
