Job description

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible clinician-educator to join the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine within its nationally recognized Department of Pediatrics in Charleston, South Carolina. Qualified pediatric sleep specialists will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and sustain a comprehensive sleep medicine program serving both pediatric and adult populations. This role offers a dynamic and fulfilling career that combines clinical practice, participation in innovative research, and the education of future pediatric healthcare leaders.

About MUSCs Sleep Center:

MUSCs Sleep Medicine program offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of sleep disorders across all ages, integrating expertise from pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, ENT, and behavioral health to deliver individualized, patient-centered care. Physicians benefit from access to advanced therapies including CBT-I, surgical interventions for CPAP intolerant patients, and both in-lab and home sleep testing within a system of accredited sleep centers extending across South Carolina. This program is supported by the state-of-the-art Shawn Jenkins Childrens Hospital and Pearl Tourville Womens Pavilion, a 250-bed facility advancing pediatric and womens care, as well as the Summey Medical Pavilion, a dedicated outpatient center offering comprehensive pediatric specialty services in a highly accessible, centralized setting.

Required Qualifications:

  • BC or BE Pediatric Sleep Specialist who has completed an ABSM Sleep Medicine Fellowship
  • Committed to MUSCs educational missions and enthusiastic about teaching
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with interest in program development opportunities

Position Highlights:

  • Opportunity to expand MUSCs Sleep Center and improve access to care across the Charleston region
  • Collaboration with pediatric weight management clinic, pediatric developmental clinic, psychology, pediatric ENT, pediatric pulmonology, and others
  • Dedicated Childrens ambulatory campus and hospital, with multi-disciplinary pediatric subspecialties, surgery centers, laboratories, pharmacies, infusion suites and radiology
  • Opportunity to help build a new pediatric sleep lab at the R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion
  • Behavioral intervention for CPAP initiation, compliance, and study desensitization
  • CPAP and ventilator compliance by remote access and Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)
  • AASM accredited 11-bed sleep laboratory operating 7 nights per week
