Job description

Job Title: PCB Design EngineerJob Description

The PCB Design Engineer will design and develop complex PCB layouts for new and existing electronic products while serving as a technical leader for high-speed, multi-layer board design. This role manages PCB design tools and libraries, collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering teams, and supports customers directly by translating technical requirements into robust, manufacturable designs. The engineer will apply current industry standards and emerging technologies to ensure high performance, reliability, and quality across all PCB designs.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop PCB layouts for new and existing electronic products, with a focus on high-speed, multi-layer boards.
  • Manage and maintain PADS component libraries, including the creation, review, and approval of new components.
  • Lead PCB design reviews and provide expert guidance on signal integrity, crosstalk mitigation, and high-speed design best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate and qualify electronic components in partnership with the engineering team to ensure suitability for performance and manufacturability requirements.
  • Prepare project estimates and quotes based on customer requirements and detailed engineering specifications.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and related PCBA documentation.
  • Apply current industry standards and emerging technologies related to PCB materials, stack-up design, manufacturing processes, and high-speed circuit design.
  • Participate actively in technical, program, and departmental meetings to support project alignment, risk mitigation, and successful execution.
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather and clarify technical requirements and translate them into clear design specifications.
  • Work across multiple projects and industries, flexing between different applications, companies, and end clients as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Approximately 10+ years of relevant experience in PCB design and layout.
  • Advanced proficiency in either Altium Designer or PADS for PCB layout and library management.
  • Proven experience designing high-speed, multi-layer PCB boards with a minimum of 8 layers.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, crosstalk, and high-speed design principles.
  • Hands-on experience managing and maintaining PCB component libraries, including creation and approval workflows.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and industries, adapting to different products, companies, and end clients.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability and desire to interact directly with clients to gather technical requirements.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation such as schematics, BOMs, and assembly drawings.
  • Solid understanding of PCB materials, stack-up design, and manufacturing processes for high-speed circuits.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is desired.
  • Experience designing very high-layer-count boards, including 24-layer PCB designs.
  • Familiarity or experience with Xpedition PCB design tools.
  • Experience participating in cross-functional technical and program meetings to support project planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging PCB technologies, materials, and industry standards.
Work Environment

This role is primarily onsite during the initial contract period of approximately two months, allowing for close collaboration with engineering and program teams. After this period, the position may offer up to two remote workdays per week, providing a hybrid work arrangement. The engineer will work in a professional engineering environment alongside electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers, using industry-standard PCB design tools such as Altium, PADS, and potentially Xpedition. The work involves regular participation in technical, program, and departmental meetings, as well as direct communication with clients to support project requirements and alignment. The setting supports focused design work, documentation development, and design reviews, with access to the necessary systems and resources to produce high-quality PCB designs.
