How much do pcb fabrication jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for pcb fabrication in the United States is $100,705.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $75,500.00 and $120,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is PCB fabrication?

PCB fabrication is the process of manufacturing printed circuit boards, which involves creating the physical boards that connect electronic components. It includes steps such as designing, etching, drilling, and applying conductive and insulating layers, often requiring precision and knowledge of industry standards. PCB fabrication technicians ensure the boards meet specifications for quality and functionality.

How to become a PCB fabrication technician?

To become a PCB fabrication technician, individuals typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and should gain skills in electronics, manufacturing processes, and quality control. Technical training or an associate degree in electronics or manufacturing technology can improve job prospects, and familiarity with PCB design software and fabrication tools is beneficial. Some employers may require certifications or on-the-job training to develop specific skills in PCB production.

What are some common challenges faced in PCB fabrication, and how can I prepare to address them in this role?

PCB fabrication professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining tight tolerances, managing complex multilayer designs, and ensuring high-quality yields under tight deadlines. Attention to detail and strong communication with design engineers are crucial, as even minor errors in the fabrication process can lead to costly rework. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment and quality control protocols will help you adapt quickly and contribute effectively to your team. Ongoing learning and collaboration with colleagues are key for staying up-to-date with evolving technologies and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PCB fabrication technician?

To thrive as a PCB Fabrication Technician, you need a strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, and quality control, often supported by a technical diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with PCB design software (such as Altium Designer), CAM systems, and operating fabrication machinery is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the precise production of reliable printed circuit boards, which are fundamental to electronic device performance.

What is the difference between Pcb Fabrication vs Pcb Assembly?

AspectPcb FabricationPcb Assembly
Primary FocusManufacturing of printed circuit boards from raw materialsAssembling electronic components onto fabricated PCBs
Skills & CertificationsKnowledge of PCB manufacturing processes, quality standardsSoldering, component placement, inspection skills
Work EnvironmentFactories, manufacturing plantsElectronics assembly lines, clean rooms
Industry UsageElectronics manufacturing, PCB suppliersElectronics product assembly, contract manufacturers

While Pcb Fabrication involves creating the physical circuit boards, Pcb Assembly focuses on attaching electronic components to these boards. Both roles are essential in electronics manufacturing but require different skill sets and work environments.

Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you've come to the right place!
E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.
We're intentional, we're unapologetically curious and we're 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.
The Senior PCB Layout Engineer is responsible for leading the physical implementation of complex, high-performance printed circuit boards from concept through production. This role requires deep expertise in multi-layer, high-speed, RF, and mixed-signal PCB layout, strong ownership of stackup and via architecture decisions, and direct engagement with PCB fabrication and assembly partners to ensure manufacturability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
What you will do
  • Technical Leadership

โ€ข Lead PCB layout architecture for complex multi-layer designs (10-20+ layers) including high-speed digital, RF, analog, and power circuitry
โ€ข Define and own stackups, impedance models, and via strategies (through, blind, buried, microvias, backdrilling)
โ€ข Serve as the DFM authority for layout decisions, balancing electrical performance, cost, yield, and reliability
Advanced PCB Design & Layout
โ€ข Perform and guide component placement optimizing signal integrity, power integrity , EMI/EMC, thermal, and mechanical performance
โ€ข Route high-speed serial interfaces, differential pairs, controlled-impedance nets, and sensitive RF/analog signals
โ€ข Design robust power distribution networks and grounding structures
โ€ข Apply advanced shielding and isolation techniques for EMI/EMC control
Fabrication & Assembly Interface
โ€ข Lead DFM/DFA reviews with PCB fabrication and assembly partners
โ€ข Resolve complex DFM issues related to:
o HDI structures and sequential lamination
o Via consolidation, backdrilling, and drill count reduction
o Stackup optimization for yield and cost
โ€ข Optimize designs for manufacturability, reliability, and volume production
Cross-Functional Collaboration
โ€ข Work closely with electrical, mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product lifecycle
โ€ข Support board bring-up, debug, ECOs, and production transitions
โ€ข Mentor and technically guide junior PCB layout engineers
Documentation & Process Ownership
โ€ข Create and review stackup drawings, fabrication notes, assembly notes, and manufacturing data packages (Gerber / ODB++)
โ€ข Establish, maintain, and enforce PCB layout standards and best practices
