How much do pcb fabrication jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for pcb fabrication in the United States is $100,705.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $75,500.00 and $120,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is PCB fabrication?

PCB fabrication is the process of manufacturing printed circuit boards, which involves creating the physical boards that connect electronic components. It includes steps such as designing, etching, drilling, and applying conductive and insulating layers, often requiring precision and knowledge of industry standards. PCB fabrication technicians ensure the boards meet specifications for quality and functionality.

How to become a PCB fabrication technician?

To become a PCB fabrication technician, individuals typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and should gain skills in electronics, manufacturing processes, and quality control. Technical training or an associate degree in electronics or manufacturing technology can improve job prospects, and familiarity with PCB design software and fabrication tools is beneficial. Some employers may require certifications or on-the-job training to develop specific skills in PCB production.

What are some common challenges faced in PCB fabrication, and how can I prepare to address them in this role?

PCB fabrication professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining tight tolerances, managing complex multilayer designs, and ensuring high-quality yields under tight deadlines. Attention to detail and strong communication with design engineers are crucial, as even minor errors in the fabrication process can lead to costly rework. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment and quality control protocols will help you adapt quickly and contribute effectively to your team. Ongoing learning and collaboration with colleagues are key for staying up-to-date with evolving technologies and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PCB fabrication technician?

To thrive as a PCB Fabrication Technician, you need a strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, and quality control, often supported by a technical diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with PCB design software (such as Altium Designer), CAM systems, and operating fabrication machinery is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the precise production of reliable printed circuit boards, which are fundamental to electronic device performance.

What is the difference between Pcb Fabrication vs Pcb Assembly?

AspectPcb FabricationPcb Assembly
Primary FocusManufacturing of printed circuit boards from raw materialsAssembling electronic components onto fabricated PCBs
Skills & CertificationsKnowledge of PCB manufacturing processes, quality standardsSoldering, component placement, inspection skills
Work EnvironmentFactories, manufacturing plantsElectronics assembly lines, clean rooms
Industry UsageElectronics manufacturing, PCB suppliersElectronics product assembly, contract manufacturers

While Pcb Fabrication involves creating the physical circuit boards, Pcb Assembly focuses on attaching electronic components to these boards. Both roles are essential in electronics manufacturing but require different skill sets and work environments.
