Job description

Orion Associates provides business management services like Payroll administration, Training, Human Resources, and more for our various other companies: Meridian Services, Zenith Services, Morning Sun Financial Services, and Little Stars. All of our companies work together to administer high quality professional services for staff while also supporting people with disabilities, the elderly, and their families.
Title: Payroll Specialist Float
Schedule: Full time Monday-Friday typical daytime hours. Employees are eligible to work from home 2 days a week after 90 days of employment.
Location: Golden Valley, MN
Wage: $24.50 per hour including FT benefits
Job Summary:
The Payroll Specialist II will assist with the department needs in regard to processing payroll. This position will work closely with the payroll supervisor and help with workflows and determining ways to improve our processes.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the payroll workflows as assigned by the Payroll Supervisor, and report to the Payroll Supervisor on a regular schedule
  • Assist the department with response to questions and customer services calls as required.
  • Process special payrolls, at the discretion of the Payroll Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the payment of all garnishment, child support and levy payments. This function will be monitored by the Specialist II and must be done after each payroll run.
  • The Payroll Specialist II will be the fill-in for any vacated position, PTO and when possible, assist in the training of new staff.
  • Process improvement
    • Propose improvements in writing to supervisor.
    • Work with payroll specialist to identify areas where improvements can be made
  • Assisting with requests for verifications of employment.
  • Assisting with the approval of payroll doc dates, posting dates, tax dates and distribution accounts.
  • Assist with posting taxes, fees and worker comp. entries after a payroll run or per the requirements of the group of companies currently assigned to.
  • Troubleshoot issues within payroll processing and helps ensure payroll processing runs smoothly. Helps the Payroll Specialist when the need arises.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English communication
  • Education: a 2 year degree in accounting is preferred but not required
  • Must have 1-5 years of job-related experience.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office. Experience working with Great Plains and Mfiles preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record as determined by Orion Associates policy.
  • Successful clearance of a Department of Human Services background study
