Job description

Position Purpose:

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing the bi-weekly payroll (750+ employees) and support other HR functions and disciplines pertaining to the payroll process and duties assigned by the Payroll and Benefits Manager. Provides exceptional customer services and practices due diligence in all HR disciplines.

Essential Duties:

  • Process and transmit payroll.
  • Process manual paychecks as directed.
  • Research and resolve payroll processing issues and pay discrepancies that may arise.
  • Ensure that personnel action forms, deductions, and terminations are processed accurately for payroll remittance.
  • Ensure timecard exceptions and approvals are complete before processing payroll, to include application of PTO, Holiday Pay, and other special pay codes.
  • Complete bi-weekly payroll reporting.
  • Ensures the integrity of the HR data within HRIS.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with all levels of staff; fosters and promotes teamwork and a positive working environment.
  • Process verification of employment requests (VOE).
  • Provide support to the Benefits and Payroll team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of payroll procedures, policies and practices.
  • Exercise the highest level of discretion and confidentiality when dealing with employee information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Must demonstrate ethical conduct
  • Must be able to operate Windows-based computer and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be proficient with Excel and Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; remains open to others ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things
  • A committed team player; detailed oriented and an effective communicator verbally and written.
  • Ability to appropriately plan and organize, administer, and prioritize; monitor and evaluate the workflow of projects and activities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative in pursuing departmental responsibilities.
  • Ability to work a standard Monday Friday 8-hour schedule and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to process payroll with a sense of urgency with accuracy and meet tight deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must sign Statement of Faith.
  • Must pass a criminal background screening.
  • Knowledge of state and federal wages, tax laws, and overtime requirements.
  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or two or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • Charis Bible College graduate is preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven work experience as a Payroll Clerk, Assistant, Administrator or Specialist.
  • Proven exceptional customer service skills while maintaining a confidential work environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience of payroll processing experience, accounting/finance or equivalent combination of education and or experience.
  • Experience working with automated multi-corporation, multi-state, payroll processing with in-depth knowledge of payroll tax and accounting principles plus wage and hour laws is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification a plus.
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience.
