Job description

Project Accountant

This position plays a key financial role for assigned construction projects within a thriving $100M organization, guiding financial workflows from contract initiation through final project billing. As the Project Accountant, you will take full ownership of project-level accounting, subcontractor contracts, lien waivers, and high-volume material invoicing. This role balances rigorous compliance management with direct, proactive communication across project managers, clients, and vendors.

The company is looking for a grounded, detail-oriented professional who carries themselves with a steady energy and brings a high level of personal ownership to their collaborative team environment. You will work directly alongside company leadership, managing weekly check runs, driving compliance across supplier waivers and change orders, and ensuring seamless financial continuity for critical construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Accounting Leadership: Lead end-to-end accounting workflows for assigned construction projects, including contract administration, billing, accounts payable, and project closeout.

  • Compliance Management: Drive and enforce strict compliance for subcontractor contracts, change orders, lien waivers, and supplier releases.

  • Civil Department AP: Manage high-volume material invoices and weekly check runs for the self-performing civil construction team.

  • Vendor & Client Communication: Maintain direct phone and email correspondence with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve billing issues and ensure timely payments.

  • Project Manager Partnership: Collaborate directly with project managers and executive leadership to provide accurate job-cost visibility, troubleshoot issues, and champion workflow improvements.

  • Financial Integrity: Review transactional coding, verify compliance schedules, and maintain detailed job-cost ledgers to protect project profitability.

Requirements
  • 3 or more years of dedicated project accounting or construction accounting experience.

  • Understanding of construction financial workflows, lien waivers, job costing, and contract administration is preferred.

  • High attention to detail, strong 10-key speed and accuracy, and comfort handling direct phone and email communications.

  • Demonstrated history of taking initiative, exercising critical thinking, and maintaining high accountability in previous roles

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $70,000 – $95,000 per year plus annual and discretionary performance bonuses

  • Retirement & Profit Sharing: 401(k) plan with profit-sharing opportunities

  • Health Coverage: Comprehensive three-tier healthcare options (medical, dental, vision, life insurance for individuals and families)

  • Perks: Company-paid gym membership and other great perks!
