What is a pattern tester?

A Pattern Tester is responsible for reviewing and testing sewing, knitting, or crochet patterns to ensure they are accurate, clear, and easy to follow. They follow the designer's instructions, check for errors, and provide feedback on sizing, fit, and overall usability. Pattern Testers help designers refine their patterns before they are released to the public. This role requires attention to detail, technical skills, and the ability to communicate constructive feedback.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a pattern tester?

Pattern Testers spend their days reviewing, constructing, and evaluating patterns—either digitally or by sewing sample garments—to ensure accuracy, usability, and fit. This often involves collaborating closely with pattern designers, providing detailed feedback, documenting issues, and suggesting improvements. Depending on the employer, you might also test instructions for clarity or oversee small test groups to gather broader user feedback. Teamwork and strong documentation skills are important, as your assessments directly impact the quality of the final product released to customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pattern tester position, and why are they important?

Strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of pattern making/reading, and familiarity with garment construction are crucial for a Pattern Tester, often supported by experience in textiles or fashion design. Proficiency with digital pattern-making software (such as Adobe Illustrator or CAD programs) and fabric measurement tools is commonly required. Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to give and accept constructive feedback help Pattern Testers excel. These competencies ensure patterns are accurate, user-friendly, and suitable for production, reducing costly errors in manufacturing.

Job description

Are you obsessed with data, partner success, taking action, and changing the game? If you have a whole lot of hustle and a touch of nerd, come work with Pattern! We want you to use your skills to push one of the fastest-growing companies headquartered in the US to the top of the list.

Pattern accelerates brands on global ecommerce marketplaces leveraging proprietary technology and AI. Utilizing more than 66 trillion data points, sophisticated machine learning and AI models, Pattern optimizes and automates all levers of ecommerce growth for global brands, including advertising, content management, logistics and fulfillment, pricing, forecasting and customer service. Hundreds of global brands depend on Pattern’s ecommerce acceleration platform every day to drive profitable revenue growth across 60+ global marketplaces—including Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com, eBay, Tmall, TikTok Shop, JD, and Mercado Libre. To learn more, visit pattern.com or email press@pattern.com.

Pattern has been named one of the fastest growing tech companies headquartered in North America by Deloitte and one of best-led companies by Inc. We place employee experience at the center of our business model and have been recognized as one of Newsweek’s Global Most Loved Workplaces®.

Pattern needs a Director of Marketing Technology and Development to own the full infrastructure behind our marketing: pattern.com, technical SEO, the complete MarTech stack, attribution, and a growing development team. You'll report directly to the CMO and serve as the technical architect who turns strategic vision into working infrastructure at global scale. This is a full-time role and will work a hybrid schedule based in Lehi, UT.

What is a day in the life of a Director of Marketing Technology & Development?
  • Own pattern.com and all marketing web properties globally: architecture, performance, CMS, conversion optimization, and a forward‑looking product roadmap aligned to pipeline goals across all regions
  • Lead the MarTech strategy that supports all marketing initiatives, anchored in integrating the marketing stack into Salesforce. Evaluate, rationalize, and own every tool, from marketing automation to analytics and emerging platforms, including make‑vs‑buy decisions and vendor negotiations. Partner with Revenue Operations as the marketing technology lead, owning the operational sync between marketing systems and Salesforce so leads, scoring, and campaign data flow cleanly and the funnel runs end to end
  • Own the technical SEO and GEO infrastructure that makes Pattern discoverable in both traditional search and AI‑powered engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), including Core Web Vitals, structured data, schema markup, and global multi‑region configuration
  • Build and maintain the full measurement stack: tag management, conversion APIs, server‑side tracking, UTM governance, and attribution modeling that connects spend to pipeline
  • Write code alongside the development team on frontend, backend, and integration challenges using modern tooling and AI‑assisted development workflows
  • Manage and grow a distributed development team including a Lead Technologist and Testing and Optimization Manager, setting engineering standards, sprint priorities, and code review culture
  • Build and manage a systematic A/B testing and CRO program across the website, landing pages, and email, using behavioral analytics alongside quantitative data to prioritize conversion opportunities
  • Partner with Content and Demand teams to scale AI‑powered workflows: automated content pipelines, LLM integrations, and n8n automations that increase throughput without proportional headcount growth
What will I need to thrive in this role?
  • 14+ years in marketing technology, growth engineering, or digital marketing with a track record of building and scaling, not just managing and maintaining
  • You write code: proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and at least one backend language or scripting environment — you can open a pull request, debug a broken integration, and build prototypes; experience with AI‑assisted dev tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) is expected
  • Hands‑on experience with enterprise CRM and marketing automation platforms. You understand the data model deeply, not just the campaign UI
  • Proven ownership of a marketing website at scale: CMS architectures, performance optimization, and the frontend/backend boundary well enough to make and defend technical decisions
  • Experience managing distributed technical teams across time zones, setting direction, running sprints, and holding quality standards while remaining a hands‑on contributor
  • Strong command of attribution modeling, server‑side tracking, tag management, and data integrity practices. You know where measurement breaks and how to fix it
  • Working knowledge of technical SEO and emerging GEO/AI search signals, you understand how search engines and LLMs index and surface content
  • Experience managing global web infrastructure multi‑region delivery, geo‑testing, hreflang, international compliance, and validating site performance from multiple geographic locations
  • Experience with experimentation platforms and a rigorous, hypothesis‑driven testing mindset — you've run programs, not just individual tests
  • Fluent in AI automation tools and custom API development. You are comfortable building integrations, not just consuming them
What does high performance look like?
  • The marketing website performs reliably across all global regions, with measurable improvement in Core Web Vitals, conversion rates, and organic discoverability in both traditional and AI‑powered search
  • The MarTech stack is rationalized — every tool earns its seat with clear ROI, clean data flows to Sales, and no data rot
  • Attribution is trustworthy — marketing leadership has a single, accurate view of spend‑to‑pipeline across every channel in real time
  • The development team ships fast without accumulating technical debt, operating with clear engineering standards, a healthy sprint cadence, and a code review culture that scales
  • AI‑powered workflows visibly increase marketing throughput without proportional headcount growth, with measurable impact on content velocity and campaign execution
What is my potential for career growth?
  • Report directly to the CMO with full visibility into Pattern's executive strategy and a mandate that spans the full stack
  • Build and lead a growing distributed development team as Pattern scales globally across North America, Europe, and Asia‑Pacific
  • Shape the technical foundation of one of the most ambitious marketing builds in the ecommerce industry, with access to 77 trillion marketplace data points and Pattern's proprietary AI platform (Pattern Intelligence)
  • Grow this function as Pattern scales toward its next chapter, with the opportunity to expand team scope, budget, and influence as the infrastructure matures
What does success look like in the first 30, 60, 90 days?
  • 30 days: Complete a thorough audit of the existing MarTech stack, web infrastructure, attribution setup, and development team. Identify critical gaps, quick wins, and areas of technical debt
  • 60 days: Establish engineering standards and a sprint cadence for the development team, and deliver a prioritized roadmap for pattern.com and the MarTech stack aligned to the CMO's pipeline goals
  • 90 days: Ship meaningful improvements to site performance or attribution accuracy, rationalize at least one underperforming tool, and have a clear 12‑month build plan with defined milestones and resourcing needs
What is the team like?

You will work with a Lead Technologist, Testing & Optimization Manager, and a growing distributed development team, and be supervised by the CMO. You will collaborate closely with the Content and Creative teams to align technical infrastructure with marketing strategy. This team is data driven and results oriented. You will collaborate regularly with members of your team to implement actionable solutions. Ideas and input are encouraged from all members.
