Job description

Position Purpose

This position transports patients and equipment to support patient care and throughput within Renown Health.

Nature and Scope

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of patient movement and/or item delivery throughout Renown Health, in accordance with established procedures. This position coordinates with nursing and other ancillary teams to deliver high quality patient care during transit to and from nursing units, radiology/non-radiology procedural areas, and pre/post-operative areas. The position demonstrates the ability to work with Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patient's needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by the Department age specific competency standard. The collaboration with fellow team members and ancillary teams provides a safe, caring, respectful and comfortable experience for all.

Incumbent must demonstrate excellent customer service skills when communicating with patients, families, staff, and physicians. This role must communicate effectively with transport team, nursing units and patient care areas to coordinate the most appropriate transport methods are utilized, timeline for transportation is prioritized appropriately, transport status, and transport delays. Identifies the correct patient for transport, and ensures that any unique transport requirements of the patient are identified and met prior to transport. Incumbent requires understanding of transport and medical equipment and technology resources. Assists nursing staff in safely transferring patients to and from gurneys, wheelchairs and beds. The position will place telemetry monitors on patient in the appropriate position for remote heart monitoring.

This position supports efficient patient flow within Renown Health by facilitating patient movement in the Emergency Room to prevent and relieve diversions and high census.

The incumbent must be able to function autonomously in a high intensity atmosphere and make appropriate decisions pertaining to quality patient care as well as personal and patient safety. In this unpredictable environment, the individual must possess the ability to organize, prioritize and reprioritize shift priorities as needed.

This position does provide patient care.
