Job description

Patient Registration Clerk2001 ROSE Surgery

Schedule: Day Shift. Part-time. 24 hours weekly. 8:30am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

About the Position

The Patient Registration Clerk facilitates patient flow from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. Obtain specific information to generate an accurate financial and demographic record for patients that will ensure maximum reimbursement and clinical outcomes. Interviews patients for limb alerts, latex allergies, explains policies of the department, and educates patient and family members of the surgical process. Answers incoming phone calls. Directs patients and visitors appropriately through wayfinding.

Overview of Responsibilities

Promotes mission statement.

Uses the computer to interview incoming surgical patients prior to admission to gather the appropriate demographic, insurance, and emergency contact information.

Ensures hospital general consent is signed.

Describes the Patient Bill of Rights to patient and ensures they received it.

Describes the surgical process to patients and family members.

Prepares discharged medical record and sends to the medical records department.

Answers all incoming phone calls and directs the phone calls to the appropriate department.

Checks the next day's charts for the appropriate times.

Communicates with the preoperative nurses, recovery nurses, and the board runner for any changes in the schedule for the day of procedures.

Helps the preadmission testing clerks with any packets they may need made.

Helps to place supply orders.

Maintains Workday assignments.

Places appropriate family members in the consultation room for the physicians.

Escorts family to the appropriate recovery rooms.

Places work orders.

Distributes appropriate supplies to the correct departments.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma is preferred

  • Must have good knowledge of all Insurances, order transcription experience, and good people skills
