Position Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) - Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Location: Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME

Employment Type: Full-time | Night Shifts | 7 PM – 7 AM | 12-Hour Shifts

The RN in the Coronary Care Unit is responsible for delivering exceptional, direct patient care to adults experiencing cardiac issues. This role involves utilizing the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to monitor cardiac health, react to changes in patient conditions, and apply evidence-based practices. The RN will work closely with physicians and the healthcare team, provide education to patients and their families, oversee other nursing staff, and ensure that standards of care, patient safety, and confidentiality are upheld at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to adult patients in the CCU, including monitoring cardiac status and executing interventions.
  • Utilize the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry, vital signs, and any changes in patient conditions.
  • Communicate swiftly with physicians and healthcare teams regarding clinical changes, diagnostic results, and symptoms.
  • Educate patients and families about cardiac conditions, treatment options, and care plans.
  • Supervise and collaborate with nursing staff, ensuring adherence to CCU care standards.
  • Accurately document all care, interventions, and patient observations while ensuring patient privacy and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Effectively respond to emergencies and rapid changes in patient conditions.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training:

  • Must possess a current and valid state RN license.
  • Current BLS certification required upon hire and must be maintained.
  • ACLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting is preferred.
  • Experience with ventilator management is preferred.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
