Job description

Summary

The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician is responsible for prescription order entry, insurance processing, and patient outreach to coordinate prescription fulfillment and delivery. The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician works in a large volume centralized specialty and mail order pharmacy call center setting under pharmacist supervision.
This position plays a key role in pharmacy operations providing excellent service through high quality performance and care. The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician functions in a multi-skilled environment which requires the application of teamwork, leadership and flexibility. This position will require collaboration with the central pharmacy dispensing team to coordinate services and will have a high degree of interaction with patients and caregivers. The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with Baptist Health System policies, federal and state pharmacy regulations, and applicable accrediting body standards.
The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician is a subject matter expert in medication processing, third party billing, medication synchronization, troubleshooting and resolving complex problems, and has excellent communication and collaboration skills. The Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician assists the Manager, Central Specialty & Mail Fulfillment with the operational supervision of the central call center pharmacy workflow including pharmacy operations, technician training and technician competency development.

Job Description:

Baptist Health is looking for a Patient Engagement Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Central Pharmacy in LaGrange, KY.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the quality, philosophy, and values of Baptist Health by maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures, organizational objectives, process improvement, and safety standards.

  • Engages in personal development to stay updated with pharmacy trends related to role and practice setting.

  • Performs all tasks associated with prescription order entry and adjudication for centralized specialty and home delivery prescriptions as permitted by state regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  • Navigates the dispensing software to perform administrative activities including but not limited to processing prescriptions efficiently, coordinating delivery with patients and/or caregivers, and resolving issues with claims.

  • Resolves insurance issues and communicates anticipated prescription delays to patients in a timely manner.

  • Uses available software tools to synchronize patient medication refills.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact with patients related to their medication fulfillment needs and escalates clinical questions to the pharmacist.

  • Provides excellent care showing empathy and compassion to patients and caregivers.

  • Collaborates with onsite central pharmacy dispensing team to coordinate services and prescription fulfillment.

  • Assists with maintaining the call center department by keeping it clean and in order and ensures all assigned tasks are completed at the end of the shift.

  • Escalates problems to a pharmacist or manager if unable to resolve independently.

  • Assists in training new staff and contributes to team meetings.

  • Takes a leadership role with prescription operational processes including order entry, third party insurance processing, copay assistance, and medication synchronization.

  • Maintains proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software and vendor systems.

  • Maintains proficiency with 340B program requirements and assists with 340B audits and reports.

  • Leads pharmacy technician onboarding activities and training program development.

  • Completes pharmacy technician training and competency assessments.

Minimum Education and Training

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy upon hire

  • Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician

  • Completion of 340B University or Apexus certification within 6 months of hire

Experience

  • Two years community pharmacy technician experience required

  • Previous call center pharmacy work experience preferred
