Job Summary:

The Patient Account Representative serves as the primary point of contact for patient billing and account questions in an ophthalmology practice. This role is responsible for patient phone calls, surgical prepayment collection, statement management through a third-party vendor, insurance and patient balance resolution, and coordination of bad debt processes. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve patient concerns professionally and efficiently.

Heaton Eye Associates has proudly served the vision care needs of East Texas for more than 40 years. Our physicians combine decades of experience with state-of-the-art technology to deliver comprehensive eye care, from routine eye exams to advanced, world-class surgical procedures.

Heaton Eye Associates was the first practice in East Texas to offer LASIK laser vision correction and has performed tens of thousands of procedures since its introduction. We provide a full spectrum of advanced cataract surgery options, including LENSAR® robotic-assisted cataract surgery, along with premium intraocular lenses such as Symfony® Extended Depth of Focus, PanOptix®, and Vivity® lenses, all designed to reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or revenue cycle operations
  • Demonstrated experience handling high-volume patient phone calls and resolving billing inquiries
  • Experience collecting patient balances, including surgical prepayments
  • Prior experience working with insurance claims, EOBs, and patient statements
  • Experience using practice management or billing software

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Job Duties Include:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all patient inquiries related to statements, balances, and billing questions
  • Work with patients to obtain payment in full for upcoming surgeries or past due open encounters
  • Coordinate with MPS for all follow-up issues related to patient statements and billing activity
  • Respond to patient and billing inquiries within 24 hours
  • Review Bad Debt reports, send letters to patients with upcoming appointments
  • Review and work MPS reports, ensuring accounts are properly updated when transferred to bad debt
  • Transfer eligible MPS accounts to Revco in accordance with established procedures
  • Post and reconcile MPS payments for both Heaton Eye Associates (HEA) and the ASC
  • Post and reconcile NSF checks
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the practice and third-party vendors MPS and Choice Recovery
  • Demonstrate consistent fulfillment of core values, including attendance, punctuality, and reliability
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
