Job Overview:

 The Patient Access Representative position plays a key role in the health system and in providing excellent customer service while ensuring timely throughput and capturing all necessary data timely. The Patient Access Representative is responsible to greet all patients in a timely and friendly manner. A core function of this position is to ensure that all customers, external and internal, are treated with the highest level of respect. The Patient Access Representative provides a safe and secure environment for the patient during the registration process. The Patient Access Representative ensures accuracy and thoroughness in collecting and documentation of the patient’s demographic and insurance information, and utilizes the technology available to complete the registration.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

  • High School Diploma required

  • Must have previous work experience in a medical setting performing patient registration and scheduling,

  • Familiar with Medical Terminology and Insurance payors,

  • Must be familiar with the computer and possess good data entry skills

  • Knowledge of EMR is a Plus

As a Patient Access Representative, a typical day might include:

  • Retrieve medical records for new patients, interviews patients, family members and other responsible parties to gather pertinent demographic and financial information, for scheduling, pre-registration and/or registration based on assigned work and accurately documents all patient information, assist department UBER rides for patients and other duties a assigned.

  • Obtains insurance information and initiates the verification process via third party clearinghouse, completes verification of coverage of all insurances, completes Medicare Questionnaire on all patients that are eligible and financial clearance activity has been completed.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the entire pre-admission, registration, and financial clearance processes, participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-services or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside of the patient access department.

  • Provides patients with all regulatory documents, obtain required signatures, and witnesses all patients signatures.

  • Ensures all required forms are provided, reviewed, properly explained and signed by the patient or an approved person on behalf of the patient, informs patient of financial responsibility and collects appropriate dollar amount for services to be rendered.

  • The Patient Access Representative ensures accuracy and thoroughness in collecting and documentation of the patient's demographic and insurance information, and utilizes the technology available to complete the registration.

  • Participates in creating a positive environment for patient and colleague satisfaction.
