Job description

Patient Access Representative

Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Patient Access Representative to join our team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for creating a first impression of Methodist Hospital to our patients, visitors and customers by providing a warm welcome and ensuring interactions are professional and courteous. This position must utilize effective interpersonal skills when gathering demographic information for complete and accurate registration including insurance verifications for outpatient services, emergency center arrivals and admissions. This position must use expertise in insurance selection to accurately input the information provided by the patient/guarantor and validate by using payer eligibility resources to ensure the accuracy of claim submission. This position must be cross trained to support the overall registration process in the Emergency Center, General Admitting and Surgery Admitting. This position must adhere to the EMTALA policy during the registration process when gathering insurance information and collecting payments in the Emergency Center. This position must maintain compliance with Joint Commission and all other hospital and government regulations applicable within the admission setting. This position must attend continuing education classes and complete mandatory training in order to maintain department specific requirements and professional growth. Effective performance of these functions helps the organization achieve strong cash flow and maximize patient's satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated P/C and keyboard experience.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated written/verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient population.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills while working through complex situations.
  • Ability to meet quality and productivity standards, including accuracy in patient registrations and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability and expectation to successfully complete a competency examination on insurance selection/process upon completion of training and annually thereafter.
  • Ability and expectation to demonstrate competency on insurance selection/process on a monthly basis.
  • Extensive use of Registration software required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Post high school degree or certification.
  • Healthcare registration experience.
  • Healthcare revenue cycle experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Personal computers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, credit card machines and scanners are equipment likely to be used.
