The TRUST Center is a respected outpatient substance abuse program dedicated to empowering individuals on their path to recovery. With a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, the Center provides high-quality group and individual counseling services in a supportive environment. The Group Counselor plays a vital role in guiding clients through their recovery journey, helping them develop effective coping strategies, manage mental health challenges, and sustain long-term recovery. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by substance use disorders, while working alongside experienced professionals committed to compassionate care and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate group counseling sessions to encourage open communication and mutual support among clients in recovery from substance use disorders.
- Develop and present psychoeducational sessions on topics such as coping skills, relapse prevention, self-esteem, and stress management.
- Provide timely and appropriate interventions during client crises, offering support and guidance to manage acute situations.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including medical staff and fellow counselors, to ensure comprehensive care for each client.
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing training sessions to support continuous professional development and maintain best practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum credential of CASAC T with eligibility to obtain the CASAC credential within the first year of employment; CASAC preferred or QHP licensed by NYSED.
- Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care.
- Valid NYS Driver’s license.
- Strong group facilitation skills and knowledge of substance use disorders and addiction recovery.
- Ability to build rapport with diverse populations, with excellent communication and crisis intervention skills.
