Children's Hospital Specialty Team Center
Job Summary: The Speech Pathologist, Specialty Team Center, functions as an integral member of a interdisciplinary team providing diagnosis and treatment recommendations in a coordinated manner with recommendations from the specialties. Has a working knowledge of the specialties of other team members involved in the care of children with craniofacial anomalies. Provides speech and language screenings as part of the Craniofacial Team Clinic within the time constraints of a busy interdisciplinary team clinic and identifies patients for whom further, in depth evaluations are necessary and provides appropriate referrals for additional assessment. Conducts age-specific and developmentally appropriate speech and language assessments, diagnosis specific communication impairments, develops treatment plans and goals. Delivers therapy and monitors progress using appropriate documentation. Provides early intervention programs. Acts as a liaison with community speech-language pathologists to coordinate treatment and provide specialty education. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment in performing all aspects of patient care. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills; utilizes knowledge in the delivery of quality whole person care; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a professional manner. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master' s Degree in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders required. Nine months of experience in a medical speech pathology or rehabilitation setting required.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to: read, write legibly, speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to: communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction. Maintains a positive professional attitude and demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates understanding of the economics of rehabilitation, (i.e. Funding policies and sources, accreditation, marketability, cost management, managed care, case management systems, materials management, etc.). Cooperates with management and other associates in achieving organizational goals, clinical program, and mission. Integrates clinical and administrative feedback and direction. Able to communicate effectively, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Current Speech Pathology licensure required. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification and Basic Life Support certification required. CCS-Paneled required if assigned to Pediatric Rehabilitation or fulfill CCS paneling requirements within twelve months from hire date.
