Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals-manganese and zinc-as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation's clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Business Improvement Specialist plays a key role in implementing Hermosa's business improvement standards and supporting both functional and operational valueenhancement initiatives. This position is based at the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona.

In this role, you will help drive operational excellence, streamline processes, and support project execution through strong planning, analysis, and crossfunctional collaboration.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: 

  • Works in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, participating in all safety meetings and performing safety and environmental inspections while performing all other duties
  • Provides scheduling/project management assistance in the completion of relevant studies, execution, and operational projects
  • Prepares schedules of work to be performed by the various Hermosa teams to deliver study, project, and operations outcomes
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly plans, and reports historical performance
  • Identifies the business' full potential and improvement opportunities, leads associated programs and manages changes (e.g. cultural shift, strategic change or on-going improvements) to ensure effectiveness and efficiency within the business
  • Drives and maintains discipline in the project's management of cash, improves performance, and delivers business improvement initiatives
  • Supports project governance processes, as required
  • Activities to be undertaken include: designing business processes to build project and operations history; designing key performance indicators (KPIs); and training key personnel in the basic skills of business improvement including data analysis and facilitating business improvement processes
  • Develops organization's problem-solving capabilities and Business Improvement mind-set and behaviors
  • Facilitates workshops with various teams to identify, plan, review, and roll out value improvement initiatives
  • Develops, implements, and maintains business systems relating to execution of the above duties
  • Works with global Business Improvement function to implement standards and routines at Hermosa

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining (Industrial) Engineering, Business, Technology or related field
  • Multi-faceted project management and/or change management experience 
  • Experience with business planning and/or organizational strategy
  • Experience coaching and influencing teams
  • Experience implementing business improvement, operational excellence, or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Previous work in an industrial environment
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and advance multiple work streams concurrently
  • Ability to work across and influence a diverse range of functional and operational teams
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot areas of ambiguity
