Laboratory Secretary, Full-Time
Laboratory Department | Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC)

As a Laboratory Secretary, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth flow of communication, record management, and administrative support within the Clinical Laboratory.

At Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC), we recognize that every role contributes to outstanding patient care. We are seeking an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Laboratory Secretary to join our Laboratory team in La Junta.

Position Summary

As a Laboratory Secretary, you will manage clerical and administrative tasks that support the efficient daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory. Responsibilities include record management, report processing, communication support, inventory coordination, and assisting laboratory staff with administrative functions.

This is a Full-Time position within our Laboratory Department.

Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Records amp; Documentation

• Type, file, and maintain clinical laboratory reports for all patients

• Maintain and update laboratory files and records

• Retrieve laboratory information and records as requested

• Fax and/or mail copies of outpatient test results to the ordering provider

• Prepare reports, forms, correspondence, and other departmental documents

• Ensure accurate and timely record maintenance in accordance with departmental procedures

Administrative amp; Office Support

• Answer telephone calls professionally and courteously

• Receive, relay, and document messages accurately

• Answer general questions and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff member

• Sort and distribute incoming mail

• Duplicate reports and materials using photocopy and office equipment

• Regularly review office procedures and assist with implementing process improvements

• Assist with additional administrative duties as assigned

Inventory amp; Supply Management

• Monitor inventory levels of office and laboratory supplies

• Order supplies as necessary to maintain departmental operations

• Conduct routine supply reviews and inventory management activities

• Assist in maintaining organized and efficient storage of supplies and materials

Patient amp; Provider Service

• Greet patients, providers, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner

• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers

• Foster positive working relationships with providers and all AVRMC staff members

• Support a patient-centered environment that promotes safety and quality care

Department Support

• Assist as backup support for the Laboratory Assistant role as needed

• Participate in activities that promote patient safety and reduce healthcare errors

• Support departmental quality improvement initiatives

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

QualificationsRequired

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

• Strong organizational and clerical skills

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

• Basic computer and office equipment skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively

Preferred

• Course work or training in Medical Terminology

• Working knowledge of medical terminology

• Previous healthcare, laboratory, or medical office experience

• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) or laboratory information systems

• Administrative or secretarial experience in a healthcare setting
