What are part-time seasonal jobs?

Part-time seasonal jobs are temporary positions that require employees to work fewer hours per week than full-time roles, typically during peak business periods or specific seasons, such as holidays or summer. These jobs are common in industries like retail, hospitality, agriculture, and tourism, where demand fluctuates throughout the year. Part-time seasonal workers may be hired to help manage increased workloads or to fill in for staff during busy times. The positions usually last for a few weeks to several months, and may offer flexible schedules, making them ideal for students, retirees, or anyone seeking short-term employment.

To thrive as a Part-Time Seasonal Worker, you typically need reliability, basic literacy and numeracy, and the ability to follow instructions, with no formal education requirements but sometimes requiring age verification. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, inventory tools, or basic warehouse equipment may be necessary depending on the industry. Strong soft skills such as flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude help workers adapt to changing schedules and high-volume periods. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficiency, customer satisfaction, and smooth operations during peak business seasons.

Job description

Canvasser, Civic Engagement & Organizing Department

(Seasonal Part-Time July-Dec 2026)

About Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta

Founded in 2010 as the Asian American Legal Advocacy Center (AALAC), our organization became part of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation in 2014. Since then, we have re-organized our focus areas more specifically into four groups: Policy Advocacy, Civic Engagement & Organizing, Impact Litigation, and Legal Services.

Our mission is to advance justice in a broad multiracial movement and build power within Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA), and immigrant communities across Georgia and the Southeast.

Our vision is a just world that embraces self-determination, transformative solidarity, and thriving.

Position Summary

As a Canvasser, you will play a crucial role in our efforts to increase voter participation and connect community members with organizational and valuable resources. Your responsibilities will include both soft canvassing at community events, festivals, and college campuses, as well as deep canvassing through door-to-door outreach in targeted communities. You will help distribute information, register community members to vote, and provide resources to support civic engagement.

This is a seasonal part-time position that supports Advancing Justice-Atlanta with community outreach and civic engagement in different communities in Georgia. Being fluent in AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) or AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian) representative languages is highly preferred for this position.

How You'll Contribute to Our Impact

  • Outreach and Engagement: Engage with community members through both soft canvassing (e.g., at community events, festivals, college campuses) and deep canvassing (e.g., door-to-door outreach) to distribute information about voting and other community resources.

  • Voter Registration: Help register eligible community members to vote, ensuring all necessary forms and information are accurately completed and submitted to Field Managers at the end of each shift.

  • Election Protection: Educate and inform community members about their voting rights, how to report issues at polling places, and the importance of election integrity; in addition, serve as Poll Monitors at assigned voting locations on key election days.

  • Information Distribution: Provide clear and accessible information about voting procedures, upcoming elections, and other community resources that promote civic participation.

  • Communication: Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, addressing questions and concerns about voting and community resources.

  • Data Integrity/Collection: Ensure our data is accurate, consistent, and reliable. Record and report relevant data from your outreach efforts.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other canvassers, Field Managers, Civic Engagement & Organizing team members, and in collaboration with our Advancing Justice-Atlanta Policy Advocacy, Impact Litigation, and Legal Services Departments to maximize impact.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Experience: Experience in canvassing, voter registration, or community outreach is preferred, but not required.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse communities in a respectful and effective manner.

  • Community Engagement: Passion for both civic engagement and organizing with a commitment to increasing voter participation and community resource awareness via community events and other activities.

  • Bilingual (highly preferred): Verbally fluent in a language spoken within AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) and/or AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian) communities.

  • Systems (preferred): Adept at using technology including MiniVAN, Connecteam, and GetThru.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in inclement weather conditions, door-to-door outreach, and canvassing in different neighborhoods. Ability to work in and with communities you may not necessarily identify with.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with a team, sharing insights and strategies to enhance outreach efforts.

  • Availability: Ability to work during Election Day, commit to a standardized work schedule which includes evenings and weekends, and align with scheduled community events and outreach opportunities.

Why You're Excited About Us

  • Impact: We are building the power for good in the South, and your contributions will matter.

  • Growth: We are invested in growing your leadership within the organization and beyond.

  • Our Team: We are a group of talented, passionate, and dedicated people who love our community and care about cultivating meaning, authenticity, and joy in our work.

  • Opportunity: You value working on a meaningful cause that impacts the community.

  • Compensation: You will be compensated at $20.00 an hour commensurate with experience, and based on principles of internal equity.

Physical & Logistical Requirements

The candidate must be local to the Metro-Atlanta area. This position requires travel to the Advancing Justice-Atlanta office and to other local meetings and events. Candidates must have their own reliable transportation with a valid driver's license and motor vehicle insurance. Must have the ability to lift 30 lbs. and stand/walk for a sufficient amount of time.

Canvassers will be scheduled and expected to work 15 to 20 hours a week during particular months, as assigned.
