Job Overview:
The Assembly & Material Support Operator performs a combination of product assembly and material/parts support functions within a cell-based manufacturing environment. Assignments may include pump assembly, parts picking, kitting, inventory support, and related production support activities based on operational needs.
This role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently while supporting team objectives, safety, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Pump Assembler
  • Assemble pump components using hand tools and fixtures
  • Fit and adjust parts to specified tolerances to ensure proper function and quality
  • Operate and adjust test equipment to verify performance and quality requirements
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions
  • Identify defects or nonconformances and escalate as required
  • Review product and inventory documentation within a computer system
  • Confirm production quantities in SAP

Parts Picker
  • Pick, kit, and deliver parts and materials to assembly cells accurately and efficiently
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, and locations to ensure correct material usage
  • Locate and retrieve parts throughout the facility as needed to support production
  • Perform inventory transactions and adjustments within the SAP
  • Research part availability and locations using SAP data and system tools
  • Maintain organization and accuracy of stocked materials
  • Manage time effectively while working independently with minimal direct supervision

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting

Core Competencies:
  • Follow standard work instructions, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure part number, quantity, and product accuracy
  • Support production flow by ensuring materials, components, and assemblies are completed accurately and on time
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement activities (e.g., 5 Whys)
  • Use company systems and tools to perform work accurately and efficiently
  • Actively uphold safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on operational needs

Preferences:
  • Experience in manufacturing, assembly, and material handling, including inventory management and parts picking.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and basic computer applications; ability to learn SAP and inventory platforms (SAP experience is a plus).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, or technical instructions.
  • Hands-on experience operating fork trucks and working safely in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, remain productive with minimal supervision, and communicate effectively in verbal and written English.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in warehouse and production areas
  • Industrial environment with exposure to noise, temperature variation, moving equipment, fumes, and chemicals

Union Relationship:
We proudly partner with District No. 8 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers with a closed shop, which means that all hourly employees are union members.
  • New employees are regarded as probationary for the first 60 working days of their employment.
  • After probation, the employee will join the union with an initiation fee and monthly dues.

  • This position is fully onsite at the Alsip, IL facility

Pay Range
  • Starting Pay will be $22.85 per hour. This is a full-time, hourly position.
