Job description

As a Part-Time Security Officer at the Indianapolis Zoo, you'll play an important role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits and works at the Zoo. From conducting patrols to responding to emergencies and assisting guests, you'll be part of a team dedicated to protecting both people and wildlife.This part-time position offers the opportunity to work a variety of shifts while gaining valuable experience in safety, security, and guest service in one of Indianapolis' most unique workplaces.Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Past work experience in security, law enforcement, military or extensive customer service experience is strongly desired. This is a part-time, 20-29 hours per week position that requires the flexibility to work varying shifts and schedules. Open availability along with availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays are a requirement.What You'll DoProvide friendly, professional service to Zoo guests and staff members.Communicate effectively by speaking in a clear and accurate manner.Guide and directs guest in a detailed and pleasant demeanor.Welcome and advise guests on bus shuttle arrival times.Act as a guide by providing the safest path and instructions for guests.Work closely with Security staff to provide a safe environment for all guests.Perform additional duties and/or assumes other responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Security.Ensure safety procedures are being followed by both staff and guests.What We're Looking ForMust be at least 18 years of age.High school diploma or GED requiredMust be comfortable working with the public in a professional and courteous manner.Must display good judgment skills and troubleshooting abilities.Ability to communicate verbally and comprehend and decipher information accurately using a two-way radio.Additional InformationFrequent exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.Flexibility is needed due to changes in the crowd size and/or weather, this may include being asked to work beyond scheduled hours or working reduced hours.
