Lowell School DistrictPosition OpeningPart time on call (PTOC) Bus Driver STARTING DATEUpon Hire WORK YEAR 185 day work year BASE SALARY$20.65-24.68 per hour APPLICATION DEADLINE Until filled (application review will begin March 1, 2026) THE POSITIONThe Lowell School District seeks outstanding, highly qualified candidates for a Part time on call bus driver whose hours and schedule depend upon the needs of the district. Paid training for bus driving certification/CDL is included in this position. POSITION SUMMARYThe employee will work with the MOT department as a part time on call bus driver during the school year and as needed

This position will include working with school principals, the public, teachers, administrators and students. This position may require evenings and split shifts. Some time periods will have more work than others.

This employee will report to the Director of MOT. This position requires the candidate to have the ability to obtain, within 30 days of hire, and maintain a CDL. Hiring "bonus" to newly hired bus drivers, who begin their employment already possessing a current, valid CDL that enables them to drive a bus.

This signing bonus shall consist of fifteen hundred dollars ($1500.00) to be paid in three (3) installments: Five hundred dollars ($500.00) upon hire, with their first paycheck; five hundred dollars ($500.00) when they are fully trained to drive a route and having passed all physical exams, paid in the following pay period; and five hundred dollars ($500.00) upon successful completion of their probationary period, also paid in the following pay period. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:DUTIES:Establish and maintain effective working rapport with students, parents, and staff.Drive regular route school busses as prescribed by assigned route and time schedule, and specified bus stops.Modify route temporarily in response to traffic or weather conditions.Initiate and administer discipline and reward systems to control student passenger behavior. Assign seating and train students in safe riding practices, street crossing, and emergency evacuation procedures.Perform pre-trip inspection of bus brakes, tires, emergency exits, lights, instruments, emergency equipment, and general operability; maintain interior cleanliness of bus.Complete required reports of odometer readings, bus malfunctions, student conduct and trips.Attend and participate in required classroom training programs, departmental meetings and planning sessions.Drive busses for field trips, athletic events, and other out-of-town special excursions as assigned.Communicate problems to Transportation Supervisor as necessary

Operate two-way radio or cell phone.May be required to drive Special Education routes as scheduling and/or relief driving requirements dictate.Perform related work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Successful completion of advanced classroom and in-vehicle training and driving tests.Thorough knowledge of the operation and capabilities of District busses and bus equipment.Ability to drive safely under pressure of time constraints, student misbehavior, hazardous road conditions, and traffic demands.Punctuality and ability to pace activity to meet time schedules.Knowledge of student behavioral management techniques and ability to control large groups of students.Ability to represent the District's objectives of courtesy and responsibility to the public.Ability to remain available for evening or weekend meetings or driving assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CLASS ENTRY:Possession of a valid State of Oregon Bus Driver's licenseSuccessful completion of core classes, training in first-aid, a physical examination, and faultless driving record

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Incumbents work split shifts. Driving assignments may require driving evenings, outside District boundaries or during snowstorms or other hazardous road conditions. Incumbents may be exposed to risk of accident, exhaust fumes, and noise of passengers or bus equipment.

CONDITIONS: The person assigned to this duty must possess appropriate training and background.Performance of assigned extra-curricular duties will be included in the evaluation process. SALARY:Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement.The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy. EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
