Essential Job Duties
The Institutional Analyst position is part of the Institutional Reporting team in University Data and Analytics (UDA). The Institutional Analyst works with other UDA teams to support and enhance comprehensive reporting and decision support for the university community, leadership, and other stakeholders. The Institutional Analyst should have a broad understanding of higher education and the collection, interpretation, and analysis of institutional data. The Institutional Analyst will provide timely and accurate information to university stakeholders by performing a variety of institutional reporting activities in collaboration with other UDA members.
The Institutional Analyst provides analysis and interpretation of the data; promotes accuracy, integrity and consistency of data and data products; and effectively reports and communicates information to a variety of constituents. The ideal candidate will have experience in the phases of enterprise data life cycles in higher education, including data acquisition, cleaning and processing, documentation, data validation and analysis, presentation, and user support.
Specific duties of the position include:
  • Support the reporting and analysis needs of campus stakeholders, which may include activities such as fulfilling campus routine and ad-hoc data requests and preparation of related summaries and reports.
  • Respond to federal and state reporting, national rankings and national study requirements throughout the year.
  • Support reporting requirements by understanding the content, format, and data definitions of reporting entities, as well as institutional data and related products.
  • Conduct data analysis and produce reports for internal and external constituencies that accurately aggregates, summarizes, and conveys NC State's student, curriculum, employee, and other institutional data.
  • Develop, streamline, and automate processes for managing, maintaining, and producing data and analytic reports.
  • Routinely update standardized information resources such as reports, websites, or dashboards.
  • Create documentation for all programs, processes, datasets, reports, and analytical products.
  • Support users of UDA's data and analytical products through development and maintenance of effective and efficient programming, in addition to high quality user-friendly documentation and instructions.
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact to campus constituents regarding UDA reporting products.
  • Conduct data validation and data quality reviews of reports and institutional data.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree and at least one year of relevant experienceOR
  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant experience OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience with analytics-related programming languages (such as SAS, SQL)
  • Experience with data visualizations (such as Power BI, SAS VA, Tableau)
  • Experience with querying, transforming, and analyzing data to produce usable information
  • Ability to understand and work with complex, cross-functional data
  • Ability to create and update analytics-related documentation
  • Ability to ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity
  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand the needs of administration and the university community
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow security procedures and work with secure/confidential data
  • Self-motivated, with high standards for rigorous and detailed work
  • Ability to collaborate with others and to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one to two years of professional experience working with data to produce reports, dashboards, or perform data analysis
  • At least one to two years of professional experience with analytics-related languages (such as SAS, SQL)
  • Experience in higher education in a professional role utilizing or handling university data
